While I do feel that bonuses may distort one's idea of how successful they are--disregarding that the rake often does too even more stealthily--I think it's all a matter of how you feel about your abilities. Yes, I'm a known gambler who believes that we're often being wussy about BR requirements, it helps to have the cushion to absorb the swings, esp when you are relatively new at the game. The best way to know if you're capable of moving up is to do it. You'll quickly find out if you are, but it's expensive if you're not.
There are fish at every level, even the highest. Can you identify the fish and take his money before the sharks get it, or are you bait? What often happens is you get some of it, and they get it from you, and yours as well. Not a happy circumstance. It goes without saying, if you can't identify the fish, you're IT.
