Anyone use the Neteller Debit Card?

Postby Big_Leon » Mon Oct 31, 2005 12:54 pm

I have a Neteller account and was thinking about getting their debit card to use to pull some cash out of my account from time to time. I pulled the list of fees below from their website. Am I reading the bolded parts correctly? For example, if I wanted to make an ATM withdrawal of say $200, will I have to pay $2 (Withdrawal From NETeller) + $1.50 (ATM Cash Advance) + $1.50 (normal ATM fees)? Also, the "Dormant Card Charge of $5 if you don't use your card for more than 30 days seems a bit excessive. Seems like you really get nailed with fees for using this card but maybe I'm not looking at this right.

Activation Fee......................FREE
Deposit To NETeller..............FREE
Withdrawal From NETeller...$2.00
ATM Cash Advance............$1.50

Point of Sale (POS).............$0.75
Declined ATM/POS..............$1.00
Balance Inquiry...................$1.00
Statement of Account.........$1.50
Dormant Card Charge.........$5.00*

Ok, I actually found a couple of older posts discussing this. Didn't sound like anyone actually used it. Curious to know if anybody actually does or just tranfers the $$ back to your bank account and withdrawal from there. That's how I've done it in the past, just thought the debit card might be a good alternative.

Still would like any feedback though.

Thanks.

Interesting. Hadn't really considered that angle.

Do you have any idea what the max withdrawal might be? Normal ATM cards usually max out at $400/per day or something like that. I ask because the wife and I are going to Vegas in a couple weeks right before Thanksgiving and I was considering just using funds out of my Neteller for gambling and what not while in Vegas.

I actually encourage you to call them... the phone CS is great.

I have oreder the card, but have not used it yet.

Here is what i understand about the fees:

- You have to move money from your NT account to a "debit card" account. This incurs the $2 "withdrawal fee". This is the money that you have access to with the card.

- Once money is in the "debit card" account, each use of the card costs $1.50 plus any bank fees you are charged at the local bank.

- The $5 fee for inactive use is only if you leave money in the acount. If there is no money in the account, no fee is charged. Note that you can move money from the debit card account back in the NT proper for no charge.

- FWIW, some banks have much larger withdrawal limits -- mine is $1000 per day.

If someone has actual experience with this, please correct me if I am wrong.

If youre going to transfer a chunk into the card and then withdraw the max every day, why not just withdraw a chunk straight to your bank account? If the purpose is to avoid a paper trail so prying eyes dont see your money transfers, then I dont think that will work either. Neteller has stated numerous times that they will provide your records to certain people upon request. Those records would include withdrawals to the card I would imagine.

Well I think the main advantage of it would be you could pull the cash almost instantly with the card vs. waiting a couple of business days for it to hit your bank. Plus, as mention by Kuso I've read a few places that the withdrawal limits are much higher than the standard withdrawal limits on most bank ATM cards.

I don't know, I'll probably just get the card, use it a couple of times and then throw it in the safe in case I ever need it in the future.

That's why I asked about the best one he has come across.
Doesn't necessarily need to be a scam either. I'd be interested in hearing about the ingenious ways crooks have come up with to launder money and stuff like that.

I'll have to think about that. Ive been meaning to write some more stories anyway.
I may write one today (not about a scam) and you wont believe Im telling the truth on this one.
