Let's talk about NL$50. Anyone with ONLY good starting hands selection should be able to make a decent PTBB/100 hands there. Let's say you make 3PTBB/100 and play four tables.

That gives you around 200hands/hr. If you can play 4 hours a day, which is not imposible because I have been doing it for more than a year now, that nets you 3x8x5= $120/week. PLUS, I say that you can get an average of $4/hr in bonus if you ALWAYS play with one. 4x4x5 = $80 for a total $200/week.

Now, if you take that 3ptbb to a very DOABLE 6ptbb/100, then you'd be talking about $300/week which is nice for a 20hr/week job.

The options are endless. If you can handle 8 tables, that could be doubled to $600/week. It sounds easier than it is. But with dedication you can make +/-2000/month playing NL$50 with a 1000+ investment.

Hehe I remember when I tried 4 tabling for the first time soon after I started playing online. It sucked ass and I quickly went back to 2. Now, less than a year later, I'd go nuts if I had to do only 4 tables.

If you can't mutitable, play low stakes and aren't very good, there is absolutely no way you will make $1000/week. If you want to do it, here's how it breaks down:

Time: 25 hours (anything over that is unrealistic)
Winrate: 5ptbb/100 (this is a good but still realistic winrate)
4 tables averaging 50 hands per hour

This gives you 5000 hands played/week. With the above win rate you'll win 500 big blinds, so the big blind obviously has to be $2 for you to make $1k.


So IF you can play 4 tables AND sustain a win rate of 5ptbb/100 AND have the discipline to play 25 hours/week AND have the bankroll to play $200NL (ie: $4000-8000) then you can make $1000/week.

Based on what you say, 1-tabling low stakes and not being very good, we come up with this:

50 hands/hour
2ptbb/100 win rate (just guessing)

So you would make about 2 big blind per hour. If you're playing NL $50 this means you're making $1/hr. I think you can calculate how many hours you need to play to make $1000 if you're making one buck per hour. Of course you can clear bonuses but playing at low levels and only one table will mean that takes a lot of time, and time is money, especially in this equation.

Just to add something more positive. I actually did live off poker alone for about half a year playing low stakes. I was 4-tabling NL $20 on Prima. I had a very good win/rate (10-15ptbb/100) and played a lot of hours. My expenses were so low I could live on $1k/month which is pretty much what I made. Unfortunately there was no room for increasing my BR, so the pressure/stress level was high (which is probably how I got the hours in). I played at least 100hrs/month for a stretch which is actually a lot harder than it sounds.

So it IS possible to live off it, but you need:

A really solid strategy (and good table selection)
Great discipline
Low expenses
