i personally think one of the biggest mistakes that new but disciplined players make is feeling obligated to move up whenever they have the bankroll to do so.
Look at Ice, dudes got a sick roll, yet he's still grinding away at 1/2nl. Why? because it's the most profitable game for him. Yes, he could win bigger pots playing 5/10, and could easily beat the game. But in terms of his comfort level (he's never scared to put in his stack or to make a play) and his $$/hour, he's decided that this is the best place for him to stay.
One of the rules i've told some of my friends is that you should never move up to the next level of play until your comfortable losing a few buy ins at your current level. In other words, what's your normal 2/4 buy in? Now multiply that number by 3. are you comfortable losing that much money in a session? if so, maybe you are ready to give the next level a try. but if not, then stay away from it. there's no shame in grinding it out for another 4,000 hands at 2/4 to build up an even safer bankroll for your next limit.
Remember, you're not racing anyone (i assume). And if you move up before either your bank roll or (more importantly) you can handle it, you're gonna wind up suffering the consequences.
