Planet Poker was one, if not the very first internet sites for playing poker. I (along with several friends) were some of the first "online" players...LOL Free games only back then (5 years ago?? Wow!!), but sooner or later I won a couple tourneys and the rest is history...Even with the recent upgrades, the software is sluggish and not up to par with P-Stars or even Party for that matter, and more disconnects in a day than P-stars in 2 months......
The choice of games is limited as well, usually only one of each...The last I looked, there were only 3 or 400 players online at one time... They used to have some 5 card draw and silly games (micro limits) to "get away" from the usual hold em grind, but sadly, they are gone now, and the tournaments are inactive as well, until they finish the upgrade. I have some loyalty to Planet, since I started with them so long ago, (and I was ranked FIRST out of 8000 people in tournament Hold em for quite awhile LOL!!) but if anyone asked me--- I would say "why bother"...
I will play there a bit longer when they get the tournaments going ( I have a zillion player points), but unless they go crazy on a marketing campaign, it seems senseless to deposit money there when we have so many other choices. As far as the players go, there are usually 1 or 2 solid players per game, and the rest are loose passive for the most part. GENERALLY, the nicest group of players around...damn near family, but that's probably because it is such a small player pool to begin with. I wish them the best, but they have their work cut out...
Almost forgot---before the recent upgrade, they had the coolest little NL game...It was micro for sure, but you could buy-in with a huge stack...Cant rememeber exactly, but it was like 5 cent 10 cent blinds, and you could buy 20 (or more?) bucks or so...OMG heaven for a small player...those are sadly gone now as well...See ya at Party I guess...
I'm going to collate these in this topic until we have enough of them to make a decent front page article. All contributions will be credited (unless you don't want them to be).
