Yes, in normal HTML you can ask the browser to show a fake URL in the status bar when you hover over it, so it will look legit (unlike the link above).
I say 'ask the browser', not 'tell the browser', because browsers like Firefox have the permissions for pages to alter its status bar text turned off by default (another reason to use FF!). That makes it very easy to spot a simple phishing link.

If you have a choice, make your email client only display plain text.
My online email, yahoo , has this choice in the options.
