a really simple way of dealing with this is only playing super-premium hands pf and fit-or-fold post-flop (i.e., don't continue with anything marginal) for two or three orbits. this helps you get into the groove of things, helps you get session-specific reads (e.g., is a normally tight player tilting?), and gives you a tight image that might give your future aggression a bit more credibility.
on a bigger scale, you simply need to be more disciplined and/or not tilt. as pz said, you're tilting, and it effects the play of your entire session. keep in mind that you might be particularly good at "winning back losses" due to the psychological mindset that it puts you in. regardless, you need to find a way to play so that you don't need or want to start out in the red.
fwiw, i find that if i lose a lot and/or get my (semi-)bluffs called down early in a session, i lose ALL credibility, and i can only value bet (i.e., no bluffing or semi-bluffing will work). yes, my nuts get paid off, but you don't hit clean nut hands often enough for this to be a profitable way of playing (at least at my stakes). anyway, i often find that it's better just to quit that table and/or the session. 3-4 buy-in downswing is my mark -- but i haven't been there in a LONG time.
hope this helps.Statistics: Posted by Kuso — Sun Dec 30, 2007 3:14 pm
