I think since I started this experiment about a couple weeks ago, I think I'm like 10/10 in LOSING big pairs... Anything I could've done different??? Anyone fold to his river bet???

Wow. I cannot believe he thought his A-high was good. He had no backdoor draws or anything... just two overcards. I bet if his hand was AQ, he would have folded by the turn. For some reason people think since they have AK they must win like 80% of the time.

I would have folded pre-flop. Everyone folded because they knew the button and SB had AA and/or KK. You should have followed suit. The SB knew his KK was no good by the turn and dumped it. What were you thinking? (This entire paragraph is facetious... nothing to see here...)

Nope, have to check-call that river.

At least you didn't have QQ on a flop of KQ8 and be against KK (me with QQ last night)!

I think you play it OK. Folding that river is hard but might be the good move.

i play this hand the same way. I think check/calling the river is best because it will often get him to bluff anything at you thinking you fear the ace, which you do.

Perhaps in general the best play is to check and call but given the board and the preflop action and continued calls on the flop and turn I can't imagine a hand that he could have other than an outside chance of something like KQ spades which he would be bluffing with here.

The thing here is there are virtually no players that are going to raise you here on the river without at least an ace or something else sinister like a set so you can be assured you are beat and lay your hand down for the same 1 bet that the check call is going to cost you but on the positive side you gain a bet when he has a hand that you can beat and calls you with which are not many but at this level alot of players will call with any pair.

Good ol' piers, always looking for that extra bet. Very intersting point piers, assuming you can lay down your overpair on the river to a raise and we all know MVP can

I probably would of played it just like you MVP.

But the river bet/ fold to a raise is a good point piers, one that I would not of thought of.

What would the situation have to be then to make this a check/call then piers?
