After reading through Piers BB defense posts and giving this some thought I think under the right scenario his defense with trash hands makes very good sense. It's still very dependent on your opponent and the flop. Here goes...

Should I have made that river bet when the Q fell? In the heat of the moment I just fired another shot but now I wonder if at that point I should have maybe check/called. Not sure.

To me this did not seem like a good flop to continue with. Way too likely that this helped him and I didn't think I should play back. Comments?

I like it. I think you did well and recognized when to try for it and when not to.

Very nice. Many times I will check the river if after CR the flop and betting the turn I still get called IF I have a piece of the board. This allows for some good thing to happen, if you are beat he may be afraid to bet the river at you saving you a bet, if you are ahead and he has nothing he might attempt a last ditch steal which you can call but which he wouldn't have called your bet. Depending on the board and likely draws that your opponent could have I may or may not fire a bet at the river with nothing, that is a more tricky situation.

Also as I said there is no crime in calling the raise preflop and check folding if the board is not to your liking. You don't have to play back everytime. Hands that I will VERY likely fold from the BB are hands that contain a broadway card or even two in them when faced with playing HU against an early position raise from a solid opponent.
