HU on flop from BB against limper

Postby Ichoi » Tue Sep 06, 2005 3:48 pm

A recent hand, here's my gametime+ stats on the other person in the hand.
VP$IP 48% PFR 24% PFAF 3.00, Hands 21.

I was wondering what everyone thought was the best way to play this hand, if at all.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Kd], [9h].
5 folds, MP3 calls, 3 folds, Hero checks.

Flop: (2.40 SB) [9d], [Ac], [5s] (2 players)

Bet it, if he raises, 3-bet. If he calls the bet, he has the ace and it's time to bail out.

If he raises, can he really NOT have an A? That board doesn't exactly lend itself to many draws with which to semi bluff.

He may figure that you're bluffing the ace, and counter-bluff-raise to win the pot right there.

Just my opinion. I think 3-betting that seperates the men from the boys.

I mistakenly listed his PFAF as 1.00, this was an error, it was actually 3.00. My mistake.

I don't agree with 3-betting for information, and neither does Ed Miller. Read the 2+2 post:

That changes things a bit. He may bluff-raise you to see where he is in the hand. If you re-raise him, you may still get him out of the hand. Caution is advised.

The way I actually played the hand was to check raise the flop.

I believed he would lead the flop with anything, but would back down to a check raise and possibly a lead on the turn, unless he caught whatever it is that he needed. In this way I would also get an extra small bet out of him, even if he had nothing.but jack or queen high.

So it plays out like this

I check, he bets, I raise, he folds.
If he 3 bet, I would call and check fold unless I improved. If he checked behind me on the turn and the river was another blank, I would pay out an ace on the river.

Is this best? I don't know, but it made sense at the time.
