Flop a full house with J5 in the BB... how to play?

Postby EscapePlan9 » Thu Aug 18, 2005 2:35 pm

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Jc], [5s].
5 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (4 SB) [Jh], [5c], [Jd] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, MP3 bets, CO calls, SB folds, Hero calls.

Turn: (3.50 BB) [3d] (3 players)
Hero bets, MP3 raises, CO folds, Hero 3-bets, MP3 calls.

River: (9.50 BB) [8c] (2 players)
Hero bets, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 11.50 BB

On the flop there were no draws out there, so I wanted to allow them to catch up. Then I uh... went against my original plan and bet out the turn with no real draws there. I'm thinking I should have checked and hoped MP3 raised again (which looks like he would) and trap the CO in for another BB.

i probably would have check raised the turn but if the CO was gonna fold anyway, you got more money in by leading out. I don't like the check/call flop, lead out turn line just because it really looks like a jack to me.

This may not be the "accepted" way, but its my way. 8-)

Flop: I check hoping to check/raise. Then cap if possible.

Turn: Same as flop. Check then c/r and cap. Hopefully the other Jack is out there and he will bet it even with u showing major cajones. Even if he doesnt have it he will bet out on the turn after your check because it looks oh so weak after the c/r-ed flop. And he figures no way u will c/r again.

River: Fold. hehe, just seein if anyones paying attention.
I do not think, therefore I am not.

Yeah.. I really don't know why I lead out that turn. That was a terrible play. Thankfully MP3 was overplaying his pocket pair like hell.

Check raise the flop. People expect a Jack to wait until the turn to pull the trigger, so they think you're just testing them. If you get raised again then call and check raise the turn, since your opponent probably has a Jack as well.

If I knew my opponent actually thought about what other people's hands, then sure, I might do that. I've learned that with PP it's best to assume your opponent is clueless about your hand.

Pretty much all of your opponents think about your hand when you raise them. Your opponent may think "No way he's got a Jack, and he thinks I'm just bluffing, I'm going to raise here or on the turn." He's not thinking about what people typically do, but he's conditioned to play that way from experience, and that's where the thought comes from. That's also why he raises the donkbet -- people don't typically play a Jack like that.

If your opponent is weak tight he'll probably just call you down, but the turn check-raise is less effective against this type as they'll likely check behind.
