Holdem Quiz II: What is my hand and perhaps analyses after

Postby piersmajestyk » Fri Jan 21, 2005 10:09 pm

Another recent hand that I was involved in at Empire with a good sized pot preflop and only going to get bigger. I will hide my cards and see what analyses you can come up with on my holding and perhaps analyze it further afterwards. I am the BB.

You are right about my holding phatlad:) I called the raise with J8spades making it 4 handed for the flop with the raiser on my immediate right which is important in hands like this because they will almost always lead at the flop after raising preflop and if you hit a hand hard or flop a strong draw you may be able to trap in multiple players for an extra bet either with a big made hand or as an overlay to your draw. The time to raise this hand is on the flop because many players will take a card off for the turn because the post has grown fairly large hoping to hit something but will fold to no help on the turn. So what happens is what when you do hit your hand you will many times only get them for 1 small bet instead of 2. Here I flopped a decent flush draw with a gut shot straight draw and an overcard which may have been good as well. The perfect card hit the turn and I drug a nice pot made nicer by those extra flop bets:)

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: CO posts a blind of $3.
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 raises, CO (poster) calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: (8.33 SB) [3s], [7h], [9s] (4 players)
BB checks, MP3 bets, CO calls, Button calls, BB raises, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls.

Turn: (8.16 BB) [Tc] (4 players)
BB bets, MP3 folds, CO calls, Button calls.

River: (11.16 BB) [2d] (3 players)
BB bets, CO calls, Button folds.

Final Pot: 13.16 BB

6 8 of spades? Doesn't feel like a set to me, and raising an open-ended straight draw doesn't seem like a good idea with a flush draw on the board. I guess you could make a case for any spades, but I'm gonna stick with 6 8 spades for the straight/flush draw.

edit: just noticed the check-raise on the flop. Set seems unlikely to me... check-raising with a straight and flush draw... Yea, definately gonna stuck with 6-8s

Well, I know you like to play your draws like this, so I lean towards 68. If MP3 is aggressive, I'd be inclined to play a set like this as well.

I say J8 spades!
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

(I hate those people who quote themselves, but that's one of my original lines).
