$1/$2 Limit 12k hands played

Postby Big_Leon » Sun Aug 07, 2005 9:15 am

I recently (in May) started playing limit. Prior to that I only played MTT and STT. I have been playing those profitably for about a year and a half. I recently started playing limit because that's what I usually play in casinos and also I wanted to take advantage of all the reload bonuses offered on the various sites.

Ok, I've hit almost 12,000 hands of $1/$2 limit. These hands were played on Party, Stars, Cryptos, Ultimate Bet, and Prima. I need some feedback and a little help on my play since I'm a losing player over this set of hands. I think my hand selection is very good but perhaps my aggression may be a little low. Additionally I think I may be making too many mistakes from my blind play because I'm losing more than an average player from my BB. I think I need to work on my hand selection for blind defense, etc.

I was a little bummed at first to see I'm a losing player, but not everyone wins all the time and I think my play is generally solid. Plus, the reloads more than cover my losses so this is all "free" learning experience.

I've posted a shot of the general info. tab and the position stats tab. Please let me know if you see anything that jumps out at you.

AFF - 2.25
AFT - 2.19
AFR - 1.89

Here's a couple things I've noticed that you might want to think about...

(1) Your winrate for AKo is pretty low, almost breakeven. I was recently looking at my database, and was pretty surprised at how much of my total win has been from this one hand. Your BB/hand for AK should probably be around .4 or .5. Perhaps you've been overplaying it when it misses, or not extracting maximum value when it hits?

(2) Your winrate from EP should be a bit higher. It looks as though you may be playing a few too many speculative/marginal hands UTG and in EP. I can't really chide you too much on this, because I play too many hands in EP too...but try to hunker down and only play premium hands early on. I'd recommend 99-AA, AK and AQ in the first two positions, nothing else.

(3) This is a minor point, but I actually think your "Won $ at SD" stat could stand to be a bit lower. Only a bit, mind you, but there have probably been a few spots along the way where you folded an unlikely winner and lost a pot you should've won. That happens to all of us occasionally, but it can be a significant leak when the pot gets very large.

The aggression looks like it needs to be beefed up some. As piers mentioned, you should increase your PFR. Also, you aren't being aggressive enough with strong draws and strong hands. Don't be afraid to re-raise strong draws on the flop and throw in a bet on the turn unimproved (do not re-raise the turn unimproved though!).

You're losing WAY too much money from the BB. I don't know if those are blind-defenses or if they're "free-plays" from bad position and you not extracting maximum value from strong hands and strong draws, so I cannot comment further there. I personally am not a fan of blind-defending with "any two cards". I honestly need to work on my blind-defense game, but still, even though I fold to blind steals often, I am only losing 0.15 BB/100 there, nearly half your losses.

FWIW, the AKo #s are only for those times he got it on the button (9 instances). The aggregate numbers are likely much better.

Kuso, that's on the bottom screenshot. I'm looking at the top screen, which shows all AK's, and I still think they need some improvement.

Yes, some strong suited connectors (JTs, QJs, AJs) are okay if it is multiway and you have position. But it is very unlikely for a raised pot to have 3+ callers, so it's very rarely you'll even be in this situation. If you don't hit the flop hard (oesd/flush draw, or 2 pair) then it's time to move on and not give anything away.

Kiko,

Thanks, I'll incorporate this as much as possible.

Piers,

I went and dug up many of your old posts on BB defense. Great stuff. I've attempted it a few times already in the right situations with great success. I'll post a couple of hands that I played today (both correctly and incorrectly) from the BB for analysis.
