i do this sometimes... especially in situation like you just described. i want to know if they were playing junk or if they hit their kicker. that being said, i usually only do it at pokerchamps (no PT data). a cheaper way to get this information is to check out PT data. this is much easier with dual screens. you can get a free look at what kinds of cards they are showing down with.

Never would have done it for more than 1 bet and even then only because it was checked around on the turn, but his VP$IP in relation to his BB/100 has me curious if he was just on a run of monster starting hands or getting lucky after the flop. I was probably expecting to see something less than [Th], but I still don't advocate cold-calling raises with it. Wasn't enough to label him as an idiot, but the cold call with the [7d] later on was.

If the pot is big enough and he is at all aggro, the call is fine as it only needs to work once in a while to profit (maybe he was stabbing with AQ?)

but if the pot is small, I don't care what he has but note that his high flop percentage and try to get in there with my top hands knowing I am ahead most of the time.

yesterday i twice ran into guys that were ramming and jamming on every street while playing HU or 3-handed. i was getting good cards but was not hitting. my bluffs got raised.

anyway, once i hit a pair or better, i called down. KK one time, TT another, and a bigger A (that we both paired) for one dude. another guy had KK twice and some other sick cards that the other opponent had to eat.

i was down about 8bb at each of these tables within about 10 hands. normally it would have been worth the price _if the game had remained HU or 3-handed_. sadly, one guy hit-and-ran, and the table filled up with the other guy.
