The true EV of Axs

Postby Tiburon » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:20 am

Looking through my PT database, I'm trying to discover where (positionally) and when it is really +EV to play the Axs hands. As most of you know, I'm a bit looser than a lot of the players here (VP$IP 18.95%, PFR 6.73%), and I generally will limp with Axs in EP and MP, and as I get closer to the button, I will open-raise with Axs.

This may be one of the largest leaks in my game. When playing Ace-little suited, you're basically committing yourself to a flush or hitting two pair, since your ace is often dominated.

What's everybody's opinion of playing Axs?

My stats for comparison (losing hands in red):

Hand........Win%............BB/hand...........VP$IP............PFR%...............W$SD
A9s.........40.00%............0.72...............95.00.............25.00...............50.00
A9o.........35.29...............0.18...............72.94.............2.35.................53.33
A8s.........41.67...............0.16................95.83............20.83...............40.00
A8o.........21.43..............-0.03..............51.19.............1.19.................57.14
A7s.........53.13................0.82...............84.38............12.50................71.43
A7o..........22.50...............0.21...............38.75.............2.50.................55.56
A6s.........39.13................0.02...............95.65.............8.70.................40.00
A6o...........9.68..............--0.02...............19.35............0.00.................33.33
A5s..........38.89...............0.05................88.89............5.56.................60.00
A5o...........7.32................0.05.................9.76.............0.00.................100.00
A4s..........20.00.............--0.75...............90.00............10.00...............37.50
A4o...........6.82..............--0.01...............12.50.............0.00................20.00
A3s..........18.18.............--1.25...............95.45............4.55.................25.00
A3o...........3.45..............--0.15.................9.20.............0.00.................0.00

A2s..........30.77...............0.04................92.31............15.38...............57.14
A2o...........3.49..............--0.05.................5.81.............0.00.................66.67

When I first started playing limit, I was playing any ace in MP/LP, and Axs in any position. Opinions?

The power of AXs depend heavily on the table conditions. I dump A9-A2o without a second thought... unless no one has entered the pot yet, I'm in LP, and the blinds will fold hands. At .5/1 and 1/2 this situation almost never occurs.

Axs

Postby knut80 » Thu Aug 18, 2005 2:36 pm

My first post here at BTP but Axs is one of my favorite subjects so I thought I'd jump in.

Axs (where x<10) is the biggest leak in my game. I don't have my stats here cuz I'm at the office but I know its just eats away at my bankroll. But, I love making the nut flush - it feels so good.

I'm learning to resist the temptation now and will not play it in EP and I won't play it in a raised pot unless I'm in a blind and I think someone's attempting a steal. I will raise in LP if I'm first in and will call in MP or LP with at least 2 other limpers. I've learnt that Axs is still a drawing hand and I need the right pot odds to play it. The hardest part about having the discipline is that I'm always loosing my KK to Ax when someone pulls the A on the river and show me A7o.
