These are the hands that kill me

It's a hand I won, but I still feel like I should've folded. I'll post the hand followed by my comments.

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (8 handed)

Preflop: TW is SB with [7c], [8c].
3 folds, MP2 calls, 1 fold, Button calls, TW completes, BB checks.

Flop: (4 SB) [Ah], [8h], [7d] (4 players)
TW bets, BB folds, MP2 folds, Button raises, TW calls.

Turn: (4 BB) [Kh] (2 players)
TW checks, Button bets, TW raises, Button 3-bets, TW calls.

River: (10 BB) [9d] (2 players)
TW checks, Button bets, TW calls.

Final Pot: 12 BB

Results in white below:
TW has 7c 8c (two pair, eights and sevens).
Button has 5s 5h (one pair, fives).
Outcome: TW wins 12 BB.

Okay, preflop. I DO NOT want to hear about how I should've folded. I've checked my PT, and was saddened to see that limping suited connectors in the SB is marginally unprofitable for me at 3/6...but god damnit, I love 'em and I'm gonna keep doin it anyway. :D

On the flop, I figure my best bet is to bet, hoping to get raised by an ace. If more than one other opponent was in, I'd gladly 3-bet, but heads-up I decided to call and check-raise any non-ace turn. Well, the turn wasn't exactly pretty, but I stuck with my plan and check-raised, and then got slightly ill when he 3-bet. Should I have just figured I'm beaten at this point and fold on the river if I don't hit my 4-outer? I can't help but feel that this is the best option, but I couldn't bring myself to do it and paid off to see his shocking 55!

The REASON I couldn't bring myself to fold the river is hands like this one! Everytime I have a nice hand (two pair or better, sometimes even just an overpair) that looks like its beaten) I TRY to fold, but then remember hands like this one so I make the crying call. And most of the time, I lose! So, the $64,000 question is: should I go with my gut and fold in spots like this, or should I pay off due to the "idiot factor" as some call it? And don't give my any "it depends" bullshit, either! :) I know it fucking depends on my opponent, but let's assume for the sake of argument that I'm morally/religiously opposed to using GT+.

The button raise on the flop is either an Ace or a flush draw in my opinion. Since it is heads up and I beat both of those I am going ahead and three betting him here and then leading the turn barring another heart. You say you are going for a CR on turn but what if he is on a heart draw and misses? He will probably check behind and if he misses the river and you bet he folds up and has gotten away with his draw for the minimum. When out of position and HU I want to get as many bets as I can against my opponent when I think I am ahead and most of the time that entails betting instead of attempting a CR which is just the opposite of what I will do many times WITH position and heads up after I get CR on the flop and I hold a powerful hand, I will let him bet it again on the turn and then raise him up.

It might be a little passive to check call the turn and river when that heart drops but that is what I am going to do as my premise was he had an Ace or a heart draw. If he has the hearts you keep your losses to a minimum as well as paying the minimum to improve and beat him anyway.

my thought is that you should get over your moral/religious opposition to GT+.... in fact, screw it, use PAhud.
