What's My Hand

Postby piersmajestyk » Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:54 pm

Let me preface this by showing a previous hand involving this particular player. He had a VIP 98%, Pfr 45%, WSD 55%, W$SD27% so in a word very solid  The only bad thing was my seat position 2 to his right.

In this first hand I knew A high was good and was letting him bluff his money off, but the unfortunate happened.

Party Poker (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [9d], [Ac].
7 folds.

Flop: [Qd], [Qh], [7c] (3 players)
BB checks, BB folds.

Turn: [8s] (2 players)
Hero checks.

River: [6c] (2 players)
Hero checks.

Final Pot:

Results in white below:
Hero has 9d Ac (one pair, queens).
Button has 4h 5s (straight, eight high).
Outcome:

OK. The mystery hand. What am I holding. I'll give you a hint, I misplayed the river.

Seat 10 is the button
Total number of players : 10
Seat 1: Lucia_Cortez ( $102 )

Ok--you're in the SB, so it has to be a doozy.

You checked the flop of [6s] [Ad] [5s], probably expecting to check-raise and not getting customers, so when the [5c] comes out, you hit your check-raise. The river was a blank, you bet out, but you already had ESPINOZA111 beat.

The pair of 5's on the board doesn't scare you at all. You limped from the SB. I know you're "tighter than a frog's ass," especially from the SB, even though you're slumming at 2/4.

You wouldn't play 55 out of position. Or 66. You damn sure wouldn't play A5, suited or not from the SB. You had a pre-flop monster. AA, KK, QQ, or AK. Don't know which one, but it had to be huge...unless of course you decided to play with 34s...

you say you misplayed the river but you got him to fold so you wanted him to bet. Since your only other option was checking to get him to bet, i'm confused. the only had you could really be that confident in is 55,66, AA, A5, A6 or 34. you are real tight in the sb but it was short so you might try for half price. You would have raised AA so i eliminate that. my guess is 66 but i'm still confused by saying you misplayed the river.

Pretty close Derf. I had K2o. In general I don't think twice about mucking these types of hands and much better ones from the small blind but against this particular player I decided to call since he played SO BADLY postflop. Numerous times he was capping it up on every street with an underpair to the board or even worse. When I am in against this type of opponent I see quite a few more hands, particularly when I can get him HU or with just one other player.

Notice also that he limped here but he had a PFR of 45% so his two cards must have been really bad. When it gets checked around on the flop I know 100% that he doesn't have even a miniscule piece of the board or he would have definately bet. So when the 5 hits the turn I check again knowing that he won't be able to resist firing at the pot and I will raise him with K high which I consider to be a powerhouse here. On the river when I actually hit a pair I should have checked and let me have another chance to bluff because at best he had K high but was the kind of player that might take a stab at the pot although he had just got CR on the turn.

This is just one of those times that you have to think outside the box given the person you are dealing with and play accordingly. If you can sit on these guys left then you should be able to really extract some coin.
