As a learning player, hearing about your experience moving up in limits is very helpful. I am struggling with the same thing you were taking about, finding "small" edges that will increase my winrate as i move up but may increase my variance. This is very frustrating for someone that has only played about 25k hands at 1/2, so a couple losing sessions really makes me think that i may not even be a winning player at 1/2 (i may not be, who knows). It is easier a lot of the times to make the more conservative "low variance" play and win at a solid rate against some of the terrible players, but I find that I am not doing well against the better regulars, and get to a higher winrate i have to get out of my comfort zone.

The point is that i think the range is tighter at 1/2 than Roy does. So if the range is tighter, youre losing less than 0.28BBs /100.

That also assumes that hands like this come up every 5000 hands which I dont agree with at these stakes which is why I think the range is tighter.

Even if it does happen every 5000 hands and even if you always fold in this spot (which again I dont agree with), losing 0.28 PTBBs / 100 hands is perfectly acceptable to me if it lowers my variance.

For most people the higher your variance is, the more frustrated you tend to get which causes more mistakes and more tilt. Id be willing to bet most everyone here already tilts / spews away more than 0.28 PTBBs / 100 hands.

Based on my assumed hand range, the fact that I dont fold it every time and the fact that I think it happens less than every 5000 hands, I would bet Im losing more like 0.1 PTBBs / 100 hands in spots like this. Thats totally fine with me.
