Flopping flushes

Postby Molina » Sat Nov 20, 2004 11:04 pm

I'm playing 6-handed, $0.5/1 100 max NL. I haven't been at the table long so they can't read me for being as tight as I am. I'm on the button and the first three players limp, I have Q-7 hearts and think 'I'm going to flop a flush', I limp, SB limps and BB checks.

The flop comes all rag hearts, I have a flush. checked round to me and I put in the normal $4 bet. SB fold, BB raises to $8, everyone else folds. BB has only $30 left. At the time I thought BB was trying to represent the flush whilst actually having the Ace of hearts.

Facing this minimal raise and the fact that he didn't have a big stack, I put him all in thinking he'd call and wanting to get the money in when ahead.

Anyway, he called and showed A9 hearts for the nut flush. Which I was surprised to see obviously.

I know the immediate response is 'playing 2 sooted cards is a stupid move' and I agree; this is the first time I done/thought this since about a year ago. I'm not trying to claim I'm psychic either. My question is:

Assuming 2 opponents with full stacks at what point do you wonder you're behind on the flop when you've flopped a queen high flush? Do you?

At this level I'd risk my stack every time, I've been called by 1pair, 2 pair, sets, and Ace of that suits many times and it a money maker for me (six handed).

If he had a much deeper stack , you mightve had a chance to tell if he a higher flush by what he did on the flop and turn after you re-raised him.. In this case, you just put him all in and see what happens, which is what you did.

PLayed unusually

He did play his hand unusually I think. People who flop nut flushes usually play them slow, and that might have thrown off your read...I probably would have been caught in the same trap b/c the chances he has that hand are remote...But I might have waited for the turn to push in the money fearing the four flush on the turn and wanting to let him have poorer odds to draw to his flush then...assuming he had the ace of hearts only.

Six handed when I get shown a better flush from a shorter stack, I'm just happy they didn't have bigger stack. Playing for the rest of his stack is your only option here, I don't see a time where with stack sizes like this you don't double that guy up.
