In some live games this week that got short-handed, my usual strategy of raising everything I play in EP didn't seem to be working. So, I started limping a lot and liked it a lot better.
Today I decided I'd try the same thing online, and I also liked it. So, I wondered what you guys think.
The PF strategy is basically this: Limp (almost) anything you play in EP, but raise when you open in LP. One can be a bit flexible on big hands--whether to limp-re-raise or open raise in EP. The way the online table was playing, I liked the LRR better, in the live game probably just open raising. But that's certainly something one can experiment around with.
Here's my impression from minimal experience:
First, you don't get into the issue of telegraphing small PP if you limp call because your range is much wider--SCs, KQ, AJ, etc. So, this really keeps your holdings on the flop well-disguised.
Second, it seemed to me that a lot of chronic raisers were very hesitant to raise an EP limp from a fairly tight player such as myself. So, it created a typically smaller investment in the pot from EP as opposed to the LP raise. That also seems to me like a good thing.
I guess those are the main advantages I was noticing.
Opinions?
