What do you do with a back-raiser?

Postby Braniff » Sun Nov 14, 2004 7:53 pm

Playing 50 NL @ Full Tilt. I'm on the button w/ KK, UTG limps, it folds to me on the button, I raise it to $1.50 (3x on Full Tilt). LB folds, BB reraises the minimum (to $2.50, I have no notes on this guy), UTG raises to $10, a back raise :( BTW, I have both of these guys covered, just barely. But I know the UTG guy, he is wild and does not always have what he is representing. I got stubborn and decide to go all-in ($49). BOTH call :( I was lucky to have two bad opponets AND have my hand hold up as BB had AK and UTG had TT.
I'm happy to win - but I don't know if I should have played it the way I did. Reraising the minimum, I take to mean anything from "I want to build a pot - poor player" to "I have AA and want to provoke you into raising again". Backraising, I generally take to mean extreme stregnth pre-flop, usually AA.
What would you guys have done facing the minimum raise followed by the back raise? How do you usually handle these two type of raises when encountered seperately, particulary the back-raise?
Thanks, Mike

I think a good argument could be made for both folding and going all-in. You can fold since there is a decent chance you are up against AA, and since you have only commited $1.50 to the pot. On the other hand, you do have the second best hand and knowing that UTG is a wild player probably would mean that he doesn't have AA, although it's still possible. I would probably go all-in and take my chances.

Any time someone limps and the reraises, I make a note of what they did it with. I have notes on alot of guys who Ive seen do it with AA more than once. Against them , I call if the raise is small enough for me to try to hit a set. Against anyone else, Im all in. There are just too many people who will make that move with 88 or worse.
