Hey guys, was working on a little music, recorded it all via really crappy computer, so it sounds a bit fuzzy... but oh well. If any of you guys wanna check it out at www.purevolume.com/almostaverage and post a bit of a critique, it'd be much appreciated. It's so hard to fix something when you're the one that makes it!

BTW, yeah, I know the guitar is a bit sloppy :P

Sort of a bump. Also, I put another little thing up. Pretty crappy, but, oh well.

Your palm mute is a little too far out on the string, stifling the tone,
move it a little closer to the bridge.
I don't like your EQ settings, but I played with mine set like that for a while too.
Bring up the mids a bit, and back the overdrive down about 10%
(You are no more sloppy than I am, but you have more creativity than I ever had.)

No offense, but I can hear the limitations of your recording/production(not sure which) setup. A little reverb might not make it so dry.
Have you considered going all digital or all analog(putting a microphone in front of an amplifier cabinet)?

Just my preliminary thoughts.

Edit: Have you ever played through a marshall amp?
You are missing a lot of tone.

Hm, good suggestions as far as palm muting goes, I'll try it tomorrow!

As far as eq settings go, I'm actually playing straight through my amp, linked into my sound card, so the quality is pretty crappy. My amp is also an 8 year old Laney.... haha.

I will try recording with my mic tomorrow, and see how that works, as well as turning up the mids.

As far as the actual song goes, though, do you have see anything that could use some serious improvement? The guitar is pretty sloppy, I know, but I sort of have to play sitting down so I can really quickly hit the 'stop' button after done recording each piece. I normally play standing up so I tend to dull a lot of notes as the neck isn't quite where it's "supposed to be".

Thanks for the input!

Oh, and what would you suggest as far as reverb goes? I'd be adding that in after the recording, so the settings I can change are:
Reverb, High Freq Dampening, Stereo Width, Wet Mix, and Dry Mix.

I've never really used it so I have no idea what to do with it.

Try reverb 10% or less, too much is splashy sounding.
You actually need all the highs you can get currently, so you do not need HF damp.
Add some stereo width, but it won't do much with your mono signal.
I am unfamiliar with wet/dry mix, but play with them too, see what it sounds like.

The fullest guitar sound I ever heard was Randy Rhoads' solos.
He used to record each 3 times, and mix them left/ right/ and center.
