Well that session got kinda ugly. I don’t know if I am playing to aggressively and overall poorly, or I am just hitting short term variance. I don’t have the confidence in my game that I used to but looking back since this time last year there are only a handful of times that I have had 4 out of 5 losing sessions.

Here are the big loses

Hand 1
$25 PL Omaha Hi-Lo (9 handed)

SB ($15.49)
BB ($22.10)
UTG ($24.50)
UTG+1 ($35.05)
MP1 ($23.05)
MP2 ($22.80)
LP1 ($43.94)
LP2 ($0)
CO ($46.16)
OTB ($29.52)

Preflop: Hero is in UTG with [Qc] [Js] [Ad] [Jd]
Hero calls [$0.25], (3 folds), LP1 raises [$1.10], (3 folds), Hero calls [$0.85]

Flop: ($2.45) [Td] [7s] [Qd] (3 players)
Hero checks, LP1 bets [$2.45], Hero raises [$9.80], LP1 raises [$29.40], Hero is all-In

Turn: ($54.95) [2c] (3 players)

River: ($54.95) [2h] (3 players)

Results in white below:
LP1 shows [ Th, As, Ac, Qh ] two pairs, aces and twos.
Hero doesn't show [ Qc, Js, Ad, Jd ] two pairs, queens and twos.
LP1 wins $8.45 from side pot #1 with two pairs, aces and twos.
LP1 wins $46.90 from the main pot with two pairs, aces and twos.
There was no qualifying low hand.

I like the way that I played this even though it will be high variance. On the flop I am a little better then 50/50 plus some fold equity makes this a reasonable play in my book.

Hand 2
$25 PL Omaha Hi-Lo (9 handed)

SB ($51.09)
BB ($15.75)
UTG ($24.75)
UTG+1 ($3)
MP1 ($9.37)
MP2 ($27.60)
LP1 ($31.36)
LP2 ($24.75)
CO ($5.44)
OTB ($25.60)

Preflop: Hero is in LP2 with [Ah] [Qh] [Jd] [As]
UTG calls [$0.25], UTG+1 raises [$1.10], (2 folds), Hero raises [$3.90], (3 folds), BB calls [$3.65], (1 fold), UTG+1 is all-In

Flop: ($10.6) [Kh] [7h] [2d] (3 players)
BB bets [$10.60], Hero is all-In, BB is all-In

Turn: ($41.7) [9s] (3 players)

River: ($41.7) [6d] (3 players)

Results in white below:
BB shows [ Kd, Th, Ks, 5d ] three of a kind, kings.
UTG+1 shows [ Ad, 2c, Qd, 4h ] a pair of twos.
UTG+1 shows 7,6,4,2,A for low.
Hero shows [ Ah, Qh, Jd, As ] a pair of aces.
Hero wins $9 from side pot #2 with a pair of aces.
BB wins $24.25 from side pot #1 with three of a kind, kings.
BB wins $4.45 from the main pot with three of a kind, kings.
UTG+1 wins Lo ($4.45) from the main pot with 7,6,4,2,A.

I re-raised to isolate the short stack. Looking back I don’t really like this play but I don’t think is was a major mistake. On the flop even if he has the worst possible hand (which he almost did) I am going to have odds.

Hand 3
$25 PL Omaha Hi-Lo (8 handed)

SB ($13.98)
BB ($26.40)
UTG ($21.90)
UTG+1 ($7.64)
MP1 ($8.18)
MP2 ($2.21)
LP1 ($5)
LP2 ($20.75)
CO ($22.05)
OTB ($23.65)

Preflop: Hero is in OTB with [5d] [As] [Kc] [Kh]
(2 folds), MP1 calls [$0.25], (2 folds), Hero raises [$1.10], (1 fold), BB calls [$0.85]

Flop: ($2.45) [7h] [3d] [Jd] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets [$2.45], BB calls [$2.45]

Turn: ($7.1) [Ad] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets [$7], BB raises, Hero folds.

My opponent was a tight player so I think is a good bluff and I just got unlucky. My guess is that he had A24.

Hand 4
$50 PL Omaha Hi-Lo (9 handed)

SB ($52.80)
BB ($0)
UTG ($56.19)
UTG+1 ($49.07)
MP1 ($50.17)
MP2 ($38.08)
LP1 ($53.31)
LP2 ($69.10)
CO ($20.99)
OTB ($52.44)

Preflop: Hero is in LP2 with [2c] [Js] [Jh] [4h]
MP1 raises [$1], (2 folds), Hero calls [$1], (3 folds), UTG calls [$0.50]

Flop: ($3.1) [6c] [Kh] [Ah] (4 players)
UTG checks, MP1 bets [$1.57], Hero raises [$7.81], UTG folds, MP1 calls [$6.24]

Turn: ($17.97) [Ac] (3 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks

River: ($17.97) [Ad] (3 players)
MP1 bets [$5.77], Hero calls [$5.77]

Results in white below:
MP1 shows [ As, 2d, 2h, Th ] four of a kind, aces.
Hero doesn't show [ 2c, Js, Jh, 4h ] a full house, Aces full of jacks.
MP1 wins $28.91 from the main pot with four of a kind, aces.
There was no qualifying low hand.

Of course he has the A with that river bet, but I am getting almost 5:1 to call. I wonder if this is a leak in my game. Besides the river call I don’t think I played the rest of the hand poorly.

Anyone see any major leaks in these hands or is this just a little welcome back variance?

A combo Party $50 / $25 session today. I think that I am going to start trying to play more of the $50 tables and less $25 tables. The $50 tables that I sat at were juicer and more predictable then the $25 games. Sometimes I actually think I could win at a higher rate at the $50 because I can actually semi-bluff and bluff.

The session went pretty well. The coin flip battle finally landed (pardon the pun) on my side. It is funny since I have been back I haven’t gotten all in when I am dominating someone. With the amount of times I am getting all in with coin flips and the amount of aggression I playing, I think I should be getting donks to call more of my bets. My sample size is still small (1200 hands since I have been back) so I guess only time will tell.

I hope to get in another party session tonight and am going to try and play some more $100 / $50 tables. Then tomorrow I am going to attempted some SHed at WillHill (I know I have been saying that for a while).

Night session was still a little brutal but won a couple of big hands to make up for it. I played Party FR 25, 50, and 100 and some SHed WillHill $100s.

Playing full ring I was basically card dead until I got all in on the wrong side of a 60 / 40 and lost. Then I stole a bunch of pots until I was back to even and then ended up all in with top set vs top 2. Ask and you shall receive (see last post about not winning and big hands from a dominating position).

SHed was the brutal part. I played really well and stole tons of pots will well timed bluffs, then I started to get played back at. I pick up AA4 and get all in against A2 and chop. Not that big a deal. Then I get all in with a wheel vs a flush draw and the flush draw hits. OK, still not that big a deal. Then I don't make anything better then TPTK for 50 or so hands and every stopped believing all of my bets. I ended up blinding / getting re-raised and gave back ½ of what I stole in the beginning. I was just sitting there waiting for a big hand so I could stack someone and beyond that wheel hand there was nothing.

Oh well, the session could have been better but it was still a good win. Still chalked up a triple digit win and more then made up for the losses in my first few sessions. I think my new plan is to sit by myself on an empty Crypto table, the open 1 Party $100 table, and 2 Party $50 / $25 tables. Then if someone wants to play me SHed at Crypto I will drop either the 2 smaller Party tables or the larger Party table depending on which are jucier.

There were 3 good party $100 tables going so I ended up playing them all. An up and down session, won a lot of money stealing and lost a lot of money getting caught :) I end up making more then I lose and I have to think it will help when I finally make a hand (which hasn't been much lately). Maybe I am over thinking this. Maybe most of the players that I am playing against aren’t smart enough to vary their play based on opponent. The ones that are smart enough are usually the TAGs who will start playing back at me, which is what I don’t want. My overall aggression is something that I am going to have to watch.

Update: I was writing this as my session was running down and in my second the last hand this happened:

$50 PL Omaha Hi-Lo (10 handed)

SB ($58.75)
BB ($37.75)
UTG ($50.70)
UTG+1 ($55.36)
MP1 ($52.35)
MP2 ($29.56)
LP1 ($50)
LP2 ($49.14)
CO ($12.95)
OTB ($8.25)

Preflop: Hero is in MP1 with [7h] [Ah] [2d] [Jc]
(1 fold), UTG+1 raises [$2], Hero calls [$2], MP2 calls [$2], (1 fold), LP2 calls [$2], (1 fold), OTB is all-In [$8.25], (2 folds), UTG+1 calls [$6.25], Hero calls [$6.25], MP2 calls [$6.25], LP2 calls [$6.25]

Flop: ($40.4) [5c] [3h] [9h] (5 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero checks, MP2 is all-In [$21.31], LP2 calls [$21.31], UTG+1 is all-In [$47.11], Hero is all-In [$44.10], LP2 is all-In [$19.58]

Turn: ($192.91) [8d] (5 players)

River: ($192.91) [Jh] (5 players)

Results in white below:
UTG+1 shows [ Ad, 2c, Th, 3s ] a pair of threes.
UTG+1 shows 8,5,3,2,A for low.
Hero shows [ 7h, Ah, 2d, Jc ] a flush, ace high.
Hero shows 8,5,3,2,A for low.
MP2 doesn't show [ Ks, 5s, 9d, Td ] two pairs, nines and fives.
LP2 doesn't show [ Qh, Qs, As, 6h ] a flush, queen high.
LP2 doesn't show 8,6,5,3,A for low.
OTB doesn't show [ Kh, Qc, 4h, Kc ] a flush, king high.
UTG+1 wins $1.51 from side pot #4 with a pair of threes.
UTG+1 wins Lo ($1.50) from side pot #4 with 8,5,3,2,A.
Hero wins $3.21 from side pot #3 with a flush, ace high with ace kicker.

Hero wins Lo ($14.68) from side pot #2 with 8,5,3,2,A.
UTG+1 wins Lo ($14.69) from side pot #2 with 8,5,3,2,A.
Hero wins $42.17 from side pot #1 with a flush, ace high with ace kicker.
Hero wins Lo ($21.08) from side pot #1 with 8,5,3,2,A.
UTG+1 wins Lo ($21.09) from side pot #1 with 8,5,3,2,A.
Hero wins $20.20 from the main pot with a flush, ace high with ace kicker.
Hero wins Lo ($10.10) from the main pot with 8,5,3,2,A.
UTG+1 wins Lo ($10.10) from the main pot with 8,5,3,2,A.

Not a bad way to end the session.

Oof. This was the second largest of of my life (the largest I got 1 outted for $650).

Ended the session down .86 but overall the session stung a little (I wonder why ;)). However, I am not going to dwell on the bad so here is a hand I really like.

My opponent was loose pre-flop and hung on to draws too long, but was tight on the river. He was semi-agressive but not tricky so I think he would have bet the str8 somewhere along the way. Also I just won a huge hand showing down the nut, nut. Against this opponent in these circumstances I really like that almost 2/3 pot river bluff.

Looking back at my last 2K hands in PTO my 4 of 5 largest loses (and 5 of 7) have been hands where I got 1/4ed.

Also over those 2K my agression is
Flop: 2.5
Turn: 3.14
River: 3.83

Oof. I think it is time to back off the agression a little esp. with a naked nut low.
