i was thinking about this after i posted, and i actually like a CR on the turn if this guy is the type of clown who bets when checked to HU. he's pissing on himself if he doesn't have the nuts in one direction.

fwiw, i've seen some people get into blind defense pissing wars with both hands having COMPLETE junk, so the bet doesn't necessarily mean that he has anything, much less a good hand.

This was a great session it started a little slow by me losing 2 coin flips, but then it really picked up. I picked up a couple of big hands and doubled up on both of my tables. On both of my tables there were 2 fish with double stacks too, but I didn’t get hands to bust them.

At one point my table broken down to SHed. It is amazing how so few PLO8 players can make the transition from Full Ring to SHed. As soon as it broke down I turned into hyper lag and stole 4 or 5 of the first 8ish pot. Then one calling station started calling me down with anything. I just started pushing hand IP against him and stealing from everyone else. It was almost too easy.

I like this play because my opponent was tight pre-flop and loose post flop. That means he isn’t going to have a 2456 type hand because I raised pre-flop. Also he is willing to call down with the second best hand (which he did here).

I don't think it was so much that too many people people saw the flop, but more that it was a raised pot. If this had been an unraised pot and it was checked to you on the button, then potting it here is excellent and you can expect to take it down a good % of the time. The rest of the time, you have outs. In a raised pot, especially short-stacks are more likely to be drawn towards the money sitting in the middle and more likely to call your bet. Also, there's the added possibility and the previous people's checks were not genuine signs of weakness but preperation for a check-raise against the pre-flop raiser. That appears to be the case for your situation and you unfortunately felll into their trap. After you're check-raised, obviously you're not happy about it but at least you have some outs.

Overall a good session, stacked two people on some tough hands. I am still waiting for that session where everyone is betting into me with the nuts. It seems like I haven’t been flopping well (I haven’t seen a nut low + nut flush draw in a long time) but I am playing reasonably.

My opponent was very aggressive so I wanted it to look like I was on a club draw that missed (which I was). Overall, I think that value betting here is better then going for the CR even against an aggressive opponent.

I don't want to jinx it but I have had 9 straight winning sessions. Looking back at all my results I think this is the major difference between when I didn’t make money and now when I do. For the first 100ish sessions I had about 50% winning sessions and guess what, I was break even (almost exactly). For my last 70ish sessions I have about 80% winning sessions. A lot of them are small wins, but it looks like my small wins balance out my loses and my monster sessions are pure profit. When I was a break even player my monster sessions would balance out my large losses and my small wins would balance out my small loses and guess what, I was break even.

I think this just goes to show how poker is a game of small advantages. A couple of tweaks to your game can make a large difference in your bottom line.

Well I know I shouldn't have said anything about the win streak.

That session felt about as good as a kick in the nuts. Total of -338; far and away my largest losing session of my poker career. Still in shell shock at the horrendous run of cards. I will post details tomorrow then I don’t think I am going to play poker for a little while.

If you need time off poker take it, but you have been killing these games. It really sounds like you have figured how to beat PLO8. I really dont understand PLO8 to enough depth to really comment on your play and have it mean anything, but the way you explain hands you play it sounds like you have to have a decent amount of variance in your play to beat these games consistantly. I know with your move up to $100 the money is a little bigger than you are used to but its just 3 buy ins not the end of the world.

Wow I wish I could say $340 was my worst losing session ever LOL. I remeber when losing $300 would really have bothered me, you will get used to it. Jus think it is the same as losing $85 on the $25 tables.

Well the party variance finally caught up with me. I ran into 1 TA and 3 LAs who were raising every hand which jacked up my variance. I ended up getting stacked 3 times twice going in as an aggressor in a coinflip (one of those someone called my pot bet to suck out on me to catch up to a coinflop) and once against a LA who finally picked up a hand. He was donating to the rest of the table and against me he finally picked up a hand.

That plus the inability to hit a draw (2 nut flush draw, 2 OESD, 2 wheel gut shots, ...) makes for a very poor session.

I like beting here but I am not 100% sure about betting pot. I bet pot to make it look like a flopped 9 who is worried about the flush draw. However, my opponent would raise, re-raise with any A2 so that is what I put him on. That means I could have bet less and still pushed him out of the pot. Also betting pot almost pot commits me.

The $25 tables made me their bitch. I seem to be getting into many, many coinflips and I seem to be loosing most of them. The only big pots that I can win are when I have my opponent drawing to 2.

For this session here are my win rates for some prime hands

On a more serious note I think that I am getting a little too loose pre-flop, esp. against a raise. I am loosing patience and playing marginal hands with fish. I keep thinking, if I can catch a flop I will bust him. However, I am doing this with hands that don’t catch flops often enough. I need to really scale back on calling raises with mediocre hands.

I also got 1/4ed more in this session then I have in my last 5 sessions combined. Some of it was unlucky (making nut low + nut flush draw vs nut low and a set, nut low + 2 pair vs set and another nut low) but some of it was bad play. I was trying to promote mediocre highs with a nut low and it wasn’t working against the $25 fish who can’t lay down 2 pair.
