Go another short session in with good results, I played well and generally made good decisions. Why does it always take me playing bad and dropping a few buys to make me start playing well. Looking back at my lifetime PLO8 graph it goes up at a fairly constant rate then around every 15 sessions it takes a sharp dive. Sometimes those sharp dives are because I caught a bad run of cards but most of the time it is bad play. Maybe I get overconfident, I donno, but it is definitely something I have to remove from my game if I want to take shots at the larger games. There is less margin for error up there and I am not sure I can survive if every 15 sessions I have 3 that I play like absolute crap.

5 tabling for 1.5 hours netted me a buy in.

Played a short 5 table session of $200 last night and ended with possibly the worst hand of poker I have ever played. I don't know what it is that is making me play poorly, and I it doesn’t seem like a conceptual problem because as soon as I click the button I know it is a bad play. Possible candidates are
- The end this semester is stressing me out and making me play worse (I saw this happening when I started grad school)
- Lack of sleep is causing me to lose my patience
- Since the bill was signed the games aren't nearly as good
- Lack of total poker hours are hurting my game
- Adjustment to the better players at 1/2
- My good run made me overconfident
- Variance

I am leaning towards the first two, and a little bit of the third. For now my response is going to be clean the slate and play well through public humiliation. For the last 3 months I have made around 2K playing PLO8 (never mind that I am basically break even this month). I am going to call that good enough and pretend like I wasn’t up almost 800 at one point this month. Starting next session the slate is clean, I am starting from 0 again, and I am going back to posting my worse and best hand from every session in my journal.

Breaking even sucks, we shall see how it goes.

A 5 table 1 hour session that netted me $32, bringing me to an impressive +4.37 playing PLO8 for the month. Woot!

Overall I played pretty well; I was much more patient and controlled. Maybe the last session finally kicked me in the ass. I am beginning to wonder if I can actually beat these games for any reasonable rate. In the last 3 months almost all of my winnings playing ½ have been from SHed and I don’t want to go back to that until I start playing well / confidently again. I just don’t know is 7-9PTBB/100 is possible when I am sitting at 5 tables with 50 – 60 average pots. PGSEU (Pre government screwing everything up) I would be sitting at 3 $100 tables with average pots in that range.

Another thing that is beginning to worry me is reads playing 4+ tables. When playing SHed I am getting much better reads then PAHUD will give me, and a lot of the money I make SHed is off those reads. When I am 4+ tabling I am not getting those reads and not able to make that read specific money.

True to my word here come the attempt to play better through public embarrassment.

I like this semi-bluff because
- I am IP
- The player was tighted
- That is a good card to bluff
- I still have outs even if I am called.

I called the flop and fold the turn. Not horrible but I don’t know exactly what I am hoping to turn that I can continue with.

Another fantabolous session of 5 tabling the $200 tables. I ended up dropping a stack but didn't think I played that poorly. I made a couple of bad plays but they really weren't THAT bad.

When I am not winning (right now) sometimes I feel like the game it unbeatable, esp. the post anti gambling bill. I haven’t stacked someone in almost 8 sessions and I just don’t understand how one can win in that scenario. Over those 8 sessions I have played poorly so I am not going to blame the cards but even if I was on the top of my game I don’t see how I could be winning.

Looking at the tool Phil wrote I broken even EV wise until the bad hand at which point I dropped about a stack of EV. That means that over the entire session I was never once in a large +EV position. Ick.

I know that in an upcoming session someone will donk off their stack to me and I will think it is impossible not to beat this game, but in the mean time I am a little frusterated.

On a more serious note, normally I would move back down right about now but the $100 games don’t look any softer then the games I am playing right now. The $25 and $50 games do but I am not sure I am willing to take two steps back. I will give it one more session, and if I still feel this way I will take RHound’s advice and take a break until I gradumerate.

My opponent had just the wrong stack size to full bluff so once he called I said that he had catch some part of the flop to CB. In this case I think I caught just enough and made a correct CB. However it is a little pathetic that my best hand results in a +$9.

I hit that flop hard, but damn that is a little ridiculous.

Edit: I may give it 2 sessions until a break, 1 more at FR then 1 SHed.

Got in a longer session yesterday with mixed results. Ended up about a stack but during the session I osolated between up 1.5 stacks and even. I miss the days when almost all of my sessions were a steady upword win rate. I had a really long streak of winning sessions because if I was down $20 I would just play for another hour and 9/10 I would be positive be the end of it. Now all my sessions look like the New York skyline.

I played some SHed which I plan on doing more of. I ended up playing HU against a maniac (which has something to do with the NY skyline, but my FR results were also like that). Playing against a maniac caused me to make some calls that I shouldn’t have, but that is what a manic does. He was a bad manic (otherwise I would have gotten up) so he ended up donating a stack to me (yeh my first in 8 sessions!) with a J high flush against my boat.

I am still concerned. I basically made all my money playing SHed which means I am still breaking even at FR $200s. In the other thread everyone suggested moving up but from what I’ve seen the juciness of the larger games isn’t that much better then the 1/2 games the the frequency leaves much to be desired.

My opponent was a decent player and I didn’t represent a hand that would beat his straight. On the river I knew he had a hand that he wasn’t happy with, but he did have a hand so I tried to take it away from him. I think next time I need to save this move for when he checks the river to me, I also should have raised TO 50 (I was actually trying to do this).

I entered this hand thinking, you know I haven’t hit a hand like this on in quite a while. Then the flop hits me in the face, and so does the river.

A grinding 5 200 table session. According to Phil's EV calculator I only won $140 at show but I banked over a 300 win. That means I won more from pushing people out then I did from keeping them in. That could be a bad thing, I could be betting too hard and pushing out lesser hands, but that is rare in Omaha. I think most likely it is a good thing because most of the time I would rather just take the fold.

I did stack someone again (two sessions in a row!). Ironically both times it was against reasonable players who for some reasons couldn't let go of a hand they should have. Maybe this is what Kuso meant about making money from reasonable player who have smaller leaks.

Edit: I just realized I had a W$SF of 43 over 300 FR hands. That is almost a guaranteed to make some money.

Edit 2: I just realized that this is my second largest winning session ever!? I had some 6 buy in days when I was playing PL25 and 3 buy in days when I was playing PL100, but never a 2 buy in day playing PL200. However, I have had a 2 buy in loss I am not worried a huge session will come with time, I just found it interesting.
