Thanks stick-
I used to play at Colusa way way back when it first opened, back in my Chico State days, but recently it went to a full $4 drop on every hand, and the first time I raised pre-flop, was not called (as unlikely as that seems at Colusa, it happened. Once.) and the rake was taken, I racked up. Up until this year, they raked 10% to $3. The rule board still advertises 10% to $3. It was BS. The play there is horrendous, that much is true. IIRC Erik Lindgren got his start and built his roll at Colusa Casino.
I played a tournament at Colusa late last year, and damn, I learned a very valuable lesson (this before I discovered BTP, of course). Buy-in was $68. After first break, blinds jumped from 400/800 to 1000/2000!!!
Not a single player had 10x BB after break. It made for a crapshoot, no skill needed. Same with the 2/4 NL with $100 max buy-in (rake $5
). Who needs post flop skill when you will push any reasonable flop when buy in is capped at 25 BB.
I played once in Modesto and the Sportsmen's Club, some little joint way out McHenery north of town, but the rake worse than Colusa (raked $5 at 2/4 iirc.) Turlock Poker Room has a decent game going, but they also rake uncalled bets pre-flop, which just gets on my nerves. There is a 10/20 LO8 game in Oakdale that looks promising, but I have yet to sit down in it. Pretty sad that when it comes down to the best places to play in Central/Northern California, the computer at home looks best more often than not. Jackson Rancheria still rakes at 10% to $3. Downside? - 3 hour wait on Friday afternoon is considered short. After all, they are the only casino anywhere close that allows 18 year olds.
