A little bit of everything in this post.
First, poker: I have been making an effort to convert to 6-max cash games. I am 4 tabling NL 25, and am getting a lot better at not timing out 14 times per session. My sessions have been pretty short, like half hour to an hour, and 2-3 a day. Not really much poker, but after losing ~$2300 in the last 2 months I needed to pull back some. I am up about 8 buy-ins at the 25s, and I will move up when I have stopped timing out on a regular basis. I have also been data mining the low limit 7CS games at Full Tilt, and will start playing some stud during the day in the next month or so. I'd like to play tournaments, but at this point I do not have the time to dedicate to sitting down for 7-8 hours at a stretch.
Second, life: I am leaving Suckramento this fall, moving back to Humboldt County, CA. I left Humboldt in 2000 to go to law school, and have been wanting to get back. I was staying in Sacramento largely for my mom, who lived alone nearby. Since she passed, the pointlessness of living here has become increasingly evident. EM put in her notice to the firm she works for yesterday, and will begin the process of clearing her calendar and transitioning the cases over to a new attorney. We have been in negotiations to purchase a law practice in Humboldt, which would be ideal. However, even if we end up not purchasing the practice, we will open up shop near the courthouse.
The live poker scene in Humboldt consists of small games with (presumably) bad players. The games are all 1/2 NL and 3/6 LHE. Sometimes a larger NL game will break out, and there are some small buy-in tourneys to be had. There are 3 feather Indian casinos in the immediate area which all have poker rooms, and I have not played in them since I left in 2000 (when there was only one). I will inspect and report, but it looks pretty small time.
I am looking forward to moving back to the coast. I was going to get a new kayak and go after the halibut and salmon, but then I saw this photo from a couple of weeks ago and am having second thoughts:
Maybe I'll just stick to the lakes and rivers.
The next couple of months for me poker wise will still not involve many hours, but I will use those hours to work on NL 6-max. My weekends have been filled with getting my mom's house ready for sale. Anyone looking for a turnkey 3bd 2ba in Dixon CA for $410k???
EDIT: For those of you from North Dakota, those marks on the kayak were made by a Great White Shark that was at least 15' long.
