Well since Ed ruined the surprise I can't make up a lie or anything.
Anyway, yea, I talked to an accountant and she said there were 3 main options for me.
Option #1
File as a poker hobbyist.
Result:
Federal 7,496.00
State 2,075.00
TOTALS 9,571.00
Option #1
File as a business.
Result:
Federal 10,805.00
State 1,267.00
TOTALS 12,072.00
Option #3
File as a business with a SEP (Self Employment Pension of up to 20%)
Result:
Federal 9,415.00
State 907.00
SEP Funding 8,151.00
TOTALS 18,473.00
Gross. Anyway after thinking it over a fair bit, and talking to one of the most wise and knowledgable people I know, I decided on option 3.
It feels a little silly to me to be shipping off $8,151.00 for basically the entire vaguely forseeable future, but as much as I don't want to admit it I probably will get old, so I guess I oughta start saving now.
In other news I feel like I'm playing quite well, but just not catching the breaks. I am also putting in an uncharacteristic number of hands which is good, now I just need to add the element of running average or slightly above average, and I can make back that $18,000 in no time.
It's about time to turn into a workhorse I think.
Boy, you got me confused with a man who repeats himself.
