I am a lazy lazy poker player.

I don't record my results well, I don't review my sessions enough, I don't post enough hands, I don't study enough. I also don't play enough, but that one is unlikely to change what with me working 35 hours a week and doing full time university.

I have been running bad for an extended period of time, which actually isn't that many hands - something like 30k hands of break even poker. That isn't fun. Some of it is running bad and I'm certain there's some bad play in there as well. (PokerEV tells me I'm ~$800 down on expectation over that time.. at NL100 that's pretty harsh, but whatever.)

It is now time to do something about the lazy bit. First up the results from my extremely short session yesterday at Cake:

I had actually intended to play for a couple of hours, but ended up going out for dinner instead. I ran pretty good. I played okay, felt a little bit rusty after not playing for about 2 weeks. I felt like I had a pretty good handle on my table after 30 odd hands. One guy was a sooperdooper calling station, one was a bit over aggro and bluffed too much, one was more of a nit than me and there was one decent tag and a pretty tight shortstacker.

Villain here is the guy I thought was pretty weak-tight. When he reraised me I pretty much put him on QQ+ and AK. I think there's practically zero chance he had anything less. I'm not really sure what I'd have done here if I'd flopped an overpair.

I figure this guy for opening with a pretty large range. I've seen him open K5s from UTG+1. I don't think he's a total donk though. I could check-raise the flop as well but decided to just check call. When he checked behind the turn I was 100% sure I was in front and decided it was better to induce a bluff on the river because he probably wouldn't call with A high or K high or something like that.

Well. The 12th was one of those days. I played 700 hands of NL100 at cake poker and lost $360. It was very very bad. I actually didn't win a pot that was bigger than $40 the entire time. I also had lots of big pairs and the only time I got past the pot was the one time someone rivered a flush against my QQ. I flopped a set when another guy flopped a straight and I only lost ~$20 something because the board was also 3-flush. My last two hands of the day summed it up. I rivered a flush with my 86s and got stacked by a bigger flush, the very next hand when I have $4 on the table I got AA and pushed and won the blinds!

Basically I was destined to lose but I also lost more than I should have. Apologies to those who watched the display of ranting in the chat room.

So I took 5 days off without reading a message board / playing a single hand / thinking about poker at all. Today I returned to poker and played 223 hands at stars NL100 for $101.65 profit. It went generally far better, although I did win the blinds with Aces,Kings and had the entire table fold to my bb when I had Queens. I fail to understand how this can continue to happen.

Poker continues to do mean things to me.

I played 355 hands at party today because they graciously decided to give me a bonus.

After 200 hands I was down more than a buyin and had not won a hand in which a flop took place. That's right, W$WSF of zero over 200 hands. After 250 hands I had won twice after the flop but I was down $220 and my biggest single hand win was $4.50 or something equally stupid. Somewhere around there I made a couple of flushes and got reasonably well paid for them (although one of the hands was played pretty damn badly) and then finally we managed to do this:



Ultimately I finished down $82.22.

Apart from the AKs and ATs hands I didn't lose more than $16 on any one hand.
I had KK twice and won $3.58 and $4.50 on those hands.
I had QQ twice and won blinds twice, lost to AK once and won $11 once.
I had to fold the flop with my only pair of jacks.

Run good with big pairs yo! Actually for anyone who reads this I'd like a bit of info! Can you tell me how much on average you win with AA, KK and QQ? In my wonderous last 32k hands I'm averaging $5.40 a hand with AA, $5.54 a hand with KK and $4.01 with QQ which just seems horribly low. That's despite the fact that i'm winning 91.72% of my aces, 90.37% of my Kings and 83.11% of my Queens. I just don't seem to be able to get any action at all - which doesn't stop people reraising me when I have AQ or something.
