************ Day 9 *************

I started the day this morning with the one of the coldest decks Ive ever seen. I went 1 hour and 14 minutes on one table before I won my 1st hand. I swear to you that I didnt not play 1 single hand outside the blinds in that entire time on that table. I just blinded away about $100. The first hand I played, I bet the flop and got raised and had tofold. Very frustrating. But you know what? I left that table in the black about 20 mins later which should be a lesson to anyone who plays less than playable hands when they run cold. That will just make it worse.

I ended the morning up around $400. I started playing in the evening and was up another $600 when I lost a stack to a 2+2er (who doesnt know who I am). Lets just say that I'll be taking alot of his money in the long run after seeing how he plays. I was back to even and pissed after having a horrible day yesterday. This table was very LAGgy with huge pots and big bluffs everywhere. I hung around and got my $1000 back in 3 or 4 medium sized pots. the river check raise works wonders on a LAG. i think Ive checked raised the river about 3 times in the last year until tonight. That might be an exxageration, but it is my new found weapon for the $5/$10 tables. These guys love to steal the pot from you if you check to them on the river.

Example:

#1) I have 97 in the BB. LAG limps in MP. SB complete. Hes a HUGE LAG and the 2 LAGS have been going at it for an hour.

Pot is $30 and the flop comes [Jc][9c][7c]. Checked around. So much for the LAG play.

Pot still $30. The turn is the [4h]. I bet $25 and MP calls.
Pot is $80. the river is the [9h]. Normally I would bet here every time, but this time I check. He bets $75 and I check raise to $300. He calls with QJ. OK, so hes a bad LAG.

#2) I have [Qc][8c] in the SB. MP limps, I complete and BB checks.
Pot is $30. Flop comes [Ac][Kc][4h]. I check, BB checks, MP bets $20. I call and were heads up.

Pot is $70. The turn is the [7c]. I check, he checks.
Pot $70. River is a brick. I check the flush to him again and he bets $50. I check raise to $150 and he calls with [Ah][Jh] . I would never check that flush to him twice in a smaller game.

I also flopped a straight in the BB against a different LAG. The flop went check/check/ I bet the turn and he called. I checked the river and he couldnt help himself and bet. Thank you Mr LAG...check raise coming right up!

That stack I lost to the 2+2er is still pissing me off as I write this post. I did not tilt while playing though. My play was good, his sucked, he got lucky, nothing I can do.

Todays results..........................2.75 hours........+$980.15

Approx playing time..................22 hours
Total Profit.................................$2010.35
Hourly rate................................$91.40

Current share value..................$600.52
Current win rate........................5.1 BB / 100 hands

At this point Im 90% confident that I can beat these stakes long term. Ive lost set over set for a stack, the lost stack today that is too horrific to post and 3 AA vs KKs that I lost all 3 of. Give me any of those hand back or let me win 2 out of 3 of the AA vs KKs....and Im well over my win rate goal. The project is a success so far in my opinion although I want to get my win rate up some more ovbiously.

Im glad you said that bkholdem. I set up a fresh database today to do just that and I can figure out how to do it.

Can someone ghive me step by step...only an idiot could mess this up...simple instructions to download these histories from observed tables?

I set up a new database.
Clicked "auto import HH from your hard drive"
Opened 4 $10/$10 tables at Party
And clicked the timer to start it.

Im sure Im missing several steps. I really have no idea which boxes to check.
I did notice just now that when I clicked "program file locations"..that "disable" was checked on eveything except Empire for some reason. Do I have to do something in there? Empire is pointing to a file but nothing else is and its all disabled. Im using Party..not Empire

What else do I have to do in the "settings" area? Do I have to browse for any folders to tell it where to get the HH from or anything like that? After about 20 mins, I wen into the Party folder like I always do to get my HHs and I didnt see anything for the 10/20 tables.

I have no clue how to do this.HELP!!

Set over set hands dont happen that often. Hands like me having [Ad][Ah] with a flop of [6h][9h][4h] and a huge pot developing where I think the other guy may have a set but I have an overpair and nut flush draw...dont happen that often.

I go weeks without running into multiple hands like this. This is the first full week (Mon - Sun) of this $1000 project and Ive had:

set over set twice now
AA vs KK 3 times and lost them all
AK with a AK6 flop and the other guy had 66
QQQ lost to KK
AA and nut flush overpair runs into set and I miss everything.
Twice I had AK with either a flopped ace or king and the other guy had AA
and 2 horrific bad beats where I was all in

All that in one week and I lost every one of those pots. I didnt get any of these huge pots to go my way ( I wasnt able to get an entire stack even once). I think I got 2 sets where I got maybe $300-$500 out of someone. I didnt get much luck at all. This many big hands in one week is a little hard to believe.

The last time I moved up to $5/$10, in my first 3 days I had [Kc][Kh] with an all [c] flop and the other guy had a set. I also had another of the same type hands where I had AA as an overpair and nut flush draw on a monotone flop. The guy had a set that time also.

Variance is one thing, but you would think that I would win a few of these hands and that I would be on the other side of a few of these stack buster hands , but I havent.

I played several hours today and played very well considering I had no cards. Suhleafs watched me for a little while and watched me fold fold fold. I somehow managed to be up a tad this monring and afternoon.......and then 2 of the listed stack buster hands hit me upside the face with no mercy.

I lost $2080 which puts me just below the break even point.

Each and every time Ive tried to move up in stakes, Ive had to move back down. Ive done this at least twice at each level before finally being able to stay at the higher level.
All of the other times, I was being outplayed. This time I really feel like its just been an unwinnable week. Also, there just arent very many $5/$10 tables available at Prima and Party. Last month there was 10-20 $5/$10 tables at Party any time you looked. Now you are lucky if there is 1. Ive tried to mix in some 2/4 to fill the gaps so I can have 3 tables going but this just doesnt work very well. I cant concentrate equally on tables with big differences in stakes.

For all of these reasons, Im cancelling the project. Im very slightly in the negative, but I will be sending everyone their original stake back.

I hate to do this because some people will say it was a failure, but I dont feel that way at all. Ive played long enough to know when Im being outplayed or not. There was a couple times that I left a table because there were 2-3 people who were playing a style that I didnt think I could beat. Theres no shame in that. But overall, I think I played very well and just being able to break even with that many big hands going agaisnt me is a victory in my book. Playing like this when Im reporting my results on a day by day basis puts much more emphasis on short term results (at least in my head) and its very tough to do, but it was a good experience to go through, however short it was.

I hope you guys dont think Im giving up or quitting. In my post this morning, I had already indicated that I was happy with my play and didnt really need the bankroll / risk crutch anymore. I have to admit though that I wouldnt have ended it abruptly like this if I hadnt had a horrible evening. I just figured since I was just about even, it was a good stopping point before I go negative and people get upset.

Like I stated this morning, Im 90% sure I can beat this level. I just need to figure out the logistics of it. I mean, I can play 3 tables of $1/$2 to the tune of around $55/hr all day long. If I could play 3 tables of $5/$10 any time I wanted, there is no doubt in my mind that I would win more on an hourly basis, but if theres only 1 $5/$10 table avail and i can beat it for about $55/hr....which should I do? Its pretty obvious to me the smaller game is better. Less risk.

So, I need to figure out if I want to spread my roll out to more sites so I can be sure the $5/$10 games are avail or come up with some other options.

Im going to take the next day or 2 off while I scout some other sites. Thanks for everyones support and confidence.

All stakers, please PM me to tell me how you want your money. It may take me a day or 2 to do the shuffling necessary to get it to where you want it.

wow.... very sad to hear this.

the good part is that at least you have confidence that you can beat the $1000 game now.

i hope the third time is a charm!!

Thanks for the ride Ice....although I did not have a stake, I have enjoyed this thread, the overall 'mission', and have decided to give the NL cash games a whirl myself (have been an SNG whore and sometimes low limit player for 18 months).

I am starting at $25NL and just worked off the Party August bonus strictly at these tables and after losing $70 day one, I managed a $45 profit yesterday and was able to cashout $645 after depositing $500.

I look forward to receiving some feedback as I progress and begin to post some hand histories.

One question since this thread deals so much with 'levels'. Should I jump right up to $50NL or give it some time? My roll is healthy, so I guess my question is from a profit standpoint and caliber difference at those 2 levels.

Thanks!

Great Job Ice :!: The fact that you lost with the hands you held and still managed to be approximately break even in the short run tells me you will be a strong winner when the variance balances out.
