Not sure if this is the "rule" he's talking about... But most people say you shouldn't call raises unless you have the implied odds of getting 10x back on your money... ex... Someone raises to $2 and has $20 behind him=good call or $2 w/ $12 behind=bad call... I know there are other measures people use, but that seems to work pretty good for me...

Short session + tight tables + few cards == boaring poker.

I didn't play any big hands which was good beacuse I was in a couple of situations with the second best hand.

The only hand that I wasn't sure about this session was:

I had KQs in the CO on a tight table. Folds to me, I make it $2 hoping to take down the blinds. Button decent player (VP$IP 20, W$SD 60) calls. Flop is A92 none of youy suit.

I made a continuation bet but I am not sure that it is the correct play. The pot was $4.5 and I bet $3 so that bet has to take down the pot 1:3 to be break even. I am not sure but I think that he may have an A here 1:3.

Another eh session. I picked big pairs a couple of times and only stole the blinds, I need to do a better job of table selection. I need to make sure there is at least 1 fish at every table so this doesn't happen.

Only played 1 big hands and that was KQ vs KK on a KQ3 board:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

SB ($38.69)
BB ($24.75)
UTG ($14.45)
UTG+1 ($49.95)
MP1 ($19.75)
Hero ($30.15)
MP3 ($42.99)
CO ($33.80)
Button ($19.70)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Qc], [Ks]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
3 folds, Hero calls $0.25, 2 folds, Button calls $0.25, 1 fold, BB raises to $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, Button calls $0.25.

Flop: ($1.60) [3c], [Qs], [Kc] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1, Button calls $1, BB calls $1.

Turn: ($4.60) [7s] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $4, Button folds, BB calls $4.

River: ($12.60) [6h] (2 players)

Final Pot: $12.60

I shouldn't have limped in MP with KQ in the first place but the table was very tight and I got a little board. Generally not a good idea, but once I am in the hand I am not sure there is anything that I can do but lose my stack.

Good to hear that someone else has a problem with AK and AQ. They are my two worst hands. I think that a lot of the trouble stems from playing sng's where they are strong holdings, especially short handed. In the cash games however TPTK can be big trouble if you can't put it down (which I have trouble doing).
Keep up the journal. It is a good read.

Another not so fun session. I played well but I got sucked out real bad once. Overall I am happing with ending even after playing for less then an hour and getting stacked as a 96% favorite.

Also I need to rethink my continuation bets. I made 2 today against looseish player with boards that they most likely caught. I need to pay better attention to who I am playing and the board texture before making continuation bets.

I think that I have also make peace with AK. I am not playing it any differently I just change my perspective on it. I no longer expect to make tons of money on the hand. Now every time that I get it I repeat to myself "I make 80% of my money with pairs, lets win a small pot." With that mentailty I have an easier time getting away from the hand when the action gets hot because I am not longer moving toward my goal of winning a small pot.

Here is the my favorite suck out for the day:

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

MP2 ($50.15)
MP3 ($21.65)
CO ($18.90)
Button ($40.69)
SB ($23.75)
BB ($13.30)
UTG ($25)
Hero ($24.50)
UTG+2 ($52.32)
MP1 ($22.45)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with [5d], [5s]. CO posts a blind of $0.25. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
UTG calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP1 raises to $1, 6 folds, UTG calls $0.75, Hero calls $0.75.

Flop: ($3.60) [5h], [8h], [Kc] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, MP1 bets $2, UTG calls $2, Hero raises to $8, MP1 folds, UTG raises to $20, Hero calls $15.50 (All-In), UTG calls $3.50.

Turn: ($52.60) [Ks] (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: ($52.60) [Jh] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $52.60

Results in white below:
UTG has Kh Jd (full house, kings full of jacks).
Hero has 5d 5s (full house, fives full of kings).
Outcome: UTG wins $52.60.

Runner, runner boat. What fun.

I also think that I need to play longer sessions. It takes 15 minutes to get 4 tables so if I only play 1 hour my multi-table ratio will be low. Also the longer sessions that I play the better change that the session will be positive. I realize this doesn't matter in my overall BB/100 but having positive sessions is nice for the confidence and my confidence is always fragile when it comes to NLHE.

Overall boaring session. I picked up KK once and QQ twice, all times took it down with a continuation bet on the flop. Only semi-big hand I played was with AK on a T23 flop. Someone called my raise with QT. I bet the flop, and it checked down.

2nd week summary.

Big pairs
----------
These continue to be my bread and butter. My overall game plan is the same a last week:
Pre-flop: Raise $2 from any position. Re-raise AA, KK from any position.
Flop: Bet 2/3 pot on any board with an overcard and shutdown if called. Bet full pot on any board with a flush / reasonable str8 draw. Bet 2/3 pot on and non-scary board.

Small pairs:
------------
These are horrendously under pre-forming for me (I will post some stats at the end). I don’t understand exactly why I can’t seem to make money with these hands. It seems like every time that I call a raise I miss and every time that I hit nobody has a real hand to pay me off with. In the 5K hands that I have played I have only stacked 2 people with sets which just isn’t going to make money.

Big Non Pairs
----------------
I still hate these hands. My new play is that I am going to repeat to myself “Play a small pot, play a small pot, …” Yet, I someone still end up in large pots with these hands. I keep ending up with TPTK against a total fish and I never believe that he has a real hand even when his betting pattern is screaming strength. I am making money off these hands but not nearly as much as I would like.

Other
-------
I think that I need to play these hands less in EP and more in LP. I have become somewhat mechanical pre-flop. See AQ, limp … see QQ raise to $2 … see 45s, limp. Wait a second, I was UTG. I need to do a better job of using position to my advantage which means I need to play this hand in LP, not in EP. The games are also loosen back up now that the bonuses are trickling out. I am going to stop limping with SC from EP and I am going to start limping Ax suited in LP in large multi way pots.

Overall
--------
I am now 3.5K hands into my break even run with around 5K total hands overall. My stats are currently:
Hands: 3312
VP$IP: 14.89
W$SF: 25.35
WtSD: 19.2
W$SD: 52.8
PFR: 3.02
FAgg: 2.39
TAgg: 2.03
RAgg: 1.96
BB/100: 6.83

Not great numbers but my BB/100 is still above my goal. I am a little worried about a W$SD that low

I am happy with the way that I am playing. I am making money and while I still have a lot to learn I feel like I am learning it at a decent rate. I think that if I can get my W$SD up and get my small pairs to start making money I will be really happy.

Hand breakdown (Hand: % of total winnings, BB/Hand)
-------------------
Big Pairs: 82%, 5.66
Small Pairs: 4%, 0.12
Big Non Pairs: 2%, .05
Other: 12%, 0.30

The Big non pairs are divided up
Suited: 689%, 1.22
Non-Suited: -589%, -0.39

Goals for next week
-----------------------
- Increase W$SD
- Concentrate on how I play AK, AQ, … esp. non suited.
- Try and figure out why my small pairs are not making me any money.

Holy mother of a session batman. 1st hand get JJ raise to $2 get 1 caller. Flop is K24, I bet $3 and get a fold. Next hand I get AA and raise to $2. I know that I am going to action now and sure enough someone re-raises all in. I call. He has QQ and turns a Q. Grrrrr. 3 hands later I get KK and raise to $2. Again I assume that I am going to get action because everyone on these tables is looking for someone who is "on tilt." This time I stack someone and end up right back to even.

Then I go about 300 hands without seeing anything. Then all hell breaks loose. First I flop a set of 8's against AQ on a A82 flop and stack someone. Then I get KK flop a set and stack someone playing AK. Finally I stack someone again with AA just for good measure. In 15 minutes I stacked 3 people and I was sitting at a table with 100+. Weeeeeee what a rush!

A short session to finish clearing a bonus. No big pairs, no PP, nothing worth talking about.

With that monster session I had last session I realized that I am up over $200 for this month. Since I wanted to clear 400 in 3 months I am very happy to be up $200 in 2/3 of a month. My win rate is now over 2x my goal, which I am not sure will last but I will enjoy while it does.
