I agree. Forgive me for being blunt but it sounds too much like wishful thinking.

I know cause I used to think about it that way too, and after a 10 buyin lose streak live I had to quit and rebuild.

My advice would be don't be results oriented, just play your best game and take the swings and swongs as best you can.

Well, I've started tracking my sng results. Here's 40 tournaments (a couple of day's worth ... $20 and $50 buyin mix. (5man)

Results:
1st: 6/40 (15%) ~ 2.5x money
2nd: 13/40 (32%) ~ 1.5x money
3rd: 13/40 (32%) ~ buyin return
4th or 5th: 8/40 (20%) ~ loss of buyin

It's a small sample but it's what I have so far. I'll keep tracking for a while. It's not much of a profit but it is a profit. The 1st place finishes are low. The skew away from losing the buyin though I think makes up for it. I attribute this to a speculative and low-key, but basic aggressive sng game. I think that in the end I can expect to see a 5-10% ROI on the game, however it needs to be maintained at a blind level high enough to make it worthwhile, or at an amount of time that's unacceptable. This information does make for a good basic launching strategy in the metagame.

So basically ... February has been a nice excercise in emotional control. I have been fluctuating between a BR of $400 and $800 ... up and down multiple times. It has been emotionally draining. Everytime I'm ready to break out I hit a cooler.

In the past I have been able to take a toothpick, and while not being able to make a lumberyard out of it ... I've at least made a log. No can do anymore it seems. I've tilted twice through the month, both times cost me between $200-300.

Currently I have $500 ... I've gotten rid of the SNG scene, and am primarily focused on my short-stack exponential Omaha scheme. It's not working for February. Poker is frustrating once again.
