So, with the recent raise of minimum wage my parents think I should get a job. However, I know that I can make more playing poker. For the next 5 months I will be trying to prove that I can make more than $7/hr and therefore not need to get a summer job.

You always can work 20 hours a week or so while playing poker part-time. I wish I did that rather than exclusively played poker for the past two years. Poker is an extremely stressful job to have when it's your only source of income.
