I read Negreanu's story about how he won his first bracelet, and I must say it inspired me. As a broke kid, he scraped up enough to sit in a satellite for the PLHE WSOP event and after winning the sat, he sat with some of the top players in the world and managed to win the event. I'm no Negreanu but I wouldn't mind giving a couple of the smaller events a shot. I do have a decent bankroll for live play, although I don't know if I'd feel completely comfortable playing in a 1k or 2k tourney, much less a 10k tourney. I haven't checked out the exact schedule yet, but most likely I'd be looking at one of the smaller buyin NLHE tourneys to compete in.
Is anyone else thinking about playing in an event? Or has played in one or more of them in the past? Which event seems the easiest?

Hi Mad,
Every year I go down to the wsop and play satelittes and side games, and have for years. No, I do not play in the main event, but one day it would be neat, but I like the way the poker is great in April during the wsop.
Now that Harrah's has moved the wsop into the torrid summer, I will still be going, but expect it to be more of a zoo than this year.
I usually stay at the Sahara (I have a weakness for the pool and the 'old Las Vegas' even though the rooms are excellent) since I can easily access both the Strip and downtown from there. The new monorail stops at the Sahara, so it will be even easier.
I am game to meet for dinner during the wsop, so put me on your list.
Negreanu's article and the classic "Fortune's Smile" both are inspiring to read. Keep in mind that both these stories were in the days where the fields were a LOT smaller, and we can expect most events to migrate to two-day marathons.
That said, nothing soothes a bad beat and good play than a steak and good glass of wine (beer for some people, admittedly). This year I needed the soothing, but in 2003, I had an incredible time at the wsop with unusually good results.
In 2005 I am planning on spending (I would like to use the word 'investing' here, but I can't and keep a straight face ...) a few thousand playing in satelittes for the smaller NL Holdem tournaments and the PL Omaha. Objective: learn.
