The reasoning is there is dead money in the pot + what you have already committed. Your getting much better than even money on your coin flip and you are even slightly ahead with the pair. I would assume it may be different if he open pushed and you were behind him with the same chip stacks. Correct?

You just can't put someone on QQ when they limp behind 2 limpers. That's a really dangerous move that just happened to work out for him.
