Anyone willing to post some limit O8 numbers

Postby GooperMC » Fri Mar 11, 2005 1:24 pm

Since getting poker tracker I have been trying to learn limit O8 with mixed results. I am beating PLO8 at a rate of 9 BB / 100 but only wining 1 BB / 100 playing limit. My basic PL strategy is steal lots of little pots to keep up with the blinds and try to win 1 huge pot a session. This obviously won’t work playing limit because you can’t really steal or win large pots. I was wondering if other people were willing to post their limit O8 numbers so I can compare and hopefully bring that 1 BB / 100 up to a more reasonable level.

My numbers:
Hands: 2203
VP$IP: 13%
W$WSF: 20%
WTSD: 30%
W$SD: 61%
PFR: 3.2%
Total Aggression: .71
BB/100: 1.3

I think that I need to raise VP$IP as well as W$SD. Looking over my database I see very few players that have a VP$IP < 15 and they seem to be making money but very little of it.

My last 1400 hand reflect my hope to raise VP$IP and W$SD
Hands: 1396
VP$IP: 16%
W$WSF: 20%
WTSD: 28%
W$SD: 68%
PFR: 2.7%
Total Aggression: .66
BB / 100: .8

Even though my last 1400 hand have been worse then my first 800 hands I feel like I am playing better. I have been able to fold hand when I have been beaten and raise when I am ahead. Ultimately I would like to see my VP$IP around 20% and my W$SD around 70%.

If anyone has comment or is willing to post their numbers I would greatly appreciate it.

Here's my numbers about my win rates. For the other numbers, you'll have to wait a little while (as I'm at work and don't have them in front of me...)

$0.50/$1.00 5225 hands, $131.72 net profit, 107.88 hours, $1.221/hr, 1.221BB/hr, $2.521/100 hands, 2.521BB/100 hands
$1.00/$2.00 5884 hands, $577.02 net profit, 120.10 hours, $4.804/hr, 2.402BB/hr, $9.807/100 hands, 4.903BB/100 hands
$2.00/$4.00 1870 hands, $194.75 net profit, 39.40 hours, $4.943/hr, 1.236BB/hr, $10.414/100 hands, 2.604BB/100 hands

Here's what I've got

2/4 O/8 on Party

Hands: 3182
VP$IP: 28.88%
W$WSF: 33.52%
WTSD: 39.74%
W$SD: 67.07%
PFR: 2.11%
Total Aggression: .41
BB/100: 7.53

Obviously we all have really small samples, since PTO just came out, but I'd say you're definitely playing too tight if you're only playing 13-16% of your hands. 22-24 is probably optimal, but I'm a little looser pre-flop.

Hmmm well that looks like a decent list of hands to play. I would suggest that in a volume pot you could add hands like A455 with a suited ace in the last couple of seats (I'd be wary of that though) and a lot of hands including A3 and connecting/wheel cards (A346, A357 even) especially in LP, perhaps A3 hands with a broadway pair (A3QQ). I would (if anything) tighten up on the any pair 8+ with suited high cards; 99, TT etc are pretty crappy in omaha because even if you set up there will always be a low or more high cards to make a high straight or set. I'd be dumping the likes of 99TK with a suited K in most spots, certainly things like TTK3 with suited king should go straight in the muck. Hands with a broadway pair plus suited ace are marginally playable though, especially in later spots.

I like some of the high pair + wheel card combos in the last two seats (something like KK24 with a suited king I would consider marginally playable in the later seats) but I think these are really marginal ones; if anything it's ok to play them if you will break even, simply so as not to appear too tight (though I doubt anyone much cares in the low limit games, or certainly the ones below 3/6 anyhow). Double high pairs are worth one bet because you have two shots at setting up and may have some marginal values for straights or flushes too, with hands like KKJJ. I am also prepared to enter a pot with 23 plus some decent side cards in LP; something like 235Kds can hit in a few different ways, though again I am less keen on an early limp with dodgy hands like that.

I think the main area of your game you could open up is playing a few more A3 hands, though I still think that most people play too many (i.e. A3 almost totally dry, something like A38T suited to the T is not really worth one bet in the early seats IMO). Other than that you seem to be playing pretty much what I have done whenever I've played limit O8 (2/4 - 5/10). Perhaps you've had a semi-dry run of cards. Anyone else any comments?

Monk covered most of the other hands that should be played. Like I said, I'm looser than most everybody else, so in position, under the right conditions I'll take flops with stuff like A-4-5-X if I'm suited to the Ace. I agree that A-3-8-T is pretty much crap, but I like to play A-3 and any two face cards, anything that can give me high wraps and backdoor lows I like. I also like the pair and low cards. KK24 is a hand I'd certainly play, and when it's double suited it plays really well at a loose table, which most of the 2/4 tables at party are.

My game is pretty much about taking flops, making good flop and post flop decisions and getting extra bets in early. That's it. I think there's a lot less right and wrong pre flop in Omaha, so mostly I'd just say experiment with a wide variety of hands and see which ones work for you.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Obviously the list that I gave was not the one that played my first 2K hands otherwise my VP$IP would have been much higher. I added the pair above 8 + suited rule after looking at PTO and seeing that I am making much more on high hands then I am on low hands. I don’t have the numbers in front of me right now so this is all from memory but I am making more money on 10JQK and 1010AJ hands then I am on A2. A2 with little else going for it is a little better then break even and a suited A2 isn’t much better then that. I know that 1010AJ is MUCH stronger then 1010K3 so I was going to see how much stronger.

BTW I have been playing A34 and A35 with a decent 4th card, I just forgot to list those.

You guys have probably played more hands then I have in my sample and I think that I have been running badly (I have the 25th lowest W$SF out of the 305 players who have played more then 100 hands in my database) so I will add some of the A3 hands and throw out some of the weaker high hands.

Its always amazes me how hard it is to move from a competent player to a good player even when I have already learned a very similar game (PLO8).
