Home Game Hand

Postby briachek » Tue Mar 29, 2005 12:18 pm

Home game - 6 handed. $.25/.$50 blinds NL Omaha

In mid position, I get [Ac][Jc][Ks][9d] and limp after 1 limper UTG. Everyone calls.

Flop

Pot $3
[Qc][8c][Th]

I flop the nuts with a wrap draw to broadway and the nut flush draw. I have about $45 in front of me

checked to me, I bet $3 and folded to button who is a really aggressive LAG who doesn't mind getting his chips in the middle with marginal holdings but big raises usually mean decent hand or draw at least.

LAG raises it to $13 total. He has you covered. Everyone folds to me. The only thing I worried about is a set but I'm still a big favorite if he has that. If he just has the straight, I'm pretty much freerolling. I've seen him do this with just the straight, or more, or less.

Its back to you, what do you do? Results after I got some respones.

Well, you want to get all his money and waiting can only hurt you. So the question is, will he call an all-in from you here? If he won't, how much of a raise will he take?

If I didn't think he could stand a full all-in, I'd probably push an additional $20 into the pot. The only thing you fear is a set right now and frankly, I think its a distant worry. If the board does pair - assuming you reraise $20 here - you'll probably need to push in on the turn anyway, because he could just have the straight many times.

I thought at first this guy has the straight.. then i noticed you had it so tjhat makes little difference as you have the outs to draw him out

He could be overvaluing AAxx which i see happen shit loads this lately..

but anyway, with LAG its hard to put on a hand... the hands that we are looking at and what make you worry...

if he has j9 straight, then the very worst thing is two low card come to split the pot

if he has a set, you dont want the board to pair.. but you have the greater out count

just to show how much i suck at this i will throw two pair into the equation which gives him a mega 4 outs compared to your draw!

Bri i really hoped you pushed all in! but i also hoped the board did not pair

Matt

Here's the result.

I pushed in like I should have, but I have a history with the opponent as does everyone that I play with because he OUTDRAWS EVERYONE so part of me didn't want to call.

He turns to me and says "I'm not gonna lie, I have a set" which is what I did and didn't want. He has been nice to people in the past moving in with the nuts and they saying "I have the nuts, don't call" and then showing and being honest. Its a strange poker relationship.

I say to him "if you have to even think about calling, you shouldn't. I have everything"

He then asks me "do you have a set"

I just repeat "I have everything." trying not to give away that I actually don't have it being that not answering or telling the truth would definately get me a call which I'm dreading (I know I shouldn't since I'm a big favorite). If I said yes I do and don't show it or show my hand and showed that I lied, he would be pissed. Its a friendly game that can just get up there when it comes to money. Plus, I don't want to piss him off since he's great for our game and throws a lot of money around and always wants to play.

He thinks and thinks and actually turns over his hand as he thinks. QJ88 (suits don't matter). So he has the bottom set and pair of queens and gutshot straight draw to the non-nut straight. He counts out his chips, which he has a total of about $60 in front on him and its $42.50 more to call (I was wrong in my initial post as I think of this, I had $55 to start and he had about 75-80). He checks his wallet to see how much money he has in case he loses and finally says, "I think you have the straight and TT so I fold."

We rabbit and it comes out offsuit A on turn so I have broadway and Q on the river to pair the board. I show my hand as we do for each other in this game and he's pissed. Not sure how much of it was pissed at me or pissed at himself for folding. I told him I couldn't say anything else without pretty much telling him my exact cards. I told him I was a big favorite over him but that didn't help.

You can see why he brings a lot of action. Someone that is willing to put a lot of money in the pot with bottom set and a weak straight draw will make the game interesting. If he didn't think I had a better set, he would have definately called and busted me. The fact that he would even think so long thinking he might be down to as little as 1 out is scary.

According to cardplayer, I was a 2:1 favorite on the flop and 75% to 20% on turn (5% tie).
