Inducing the steal - what next?

Here's a hand from last night's PLO8 table. Phil posted it in the cash game thread, but I'd like to hear some thoughts.

$100 PL Omaha Hi-Lo - Sunday, May 21, 23:24:00 ET 2006
Table BadbeatPhil's pvt table 2 (Real Money)
Seat 4 is the button
Total number of players : 5
Seat 9: HakAllah ( $235.42 )
Seat 1: BadbeatPhil ( $167.88 )
Seat 5: TGoldman ( $154.17 )
Seat 4: BurdTurglar ( $196.21 )
Seat 2: LeeLoo444 ( $91.90 )
TGoldman posts small blind [$0.50].
HakAllah posts big blind [$1].
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to BurdTurglar [Ax 2x Tx Jx] - (I forget the suits, but they don't matter)
BadbeatPhil raises [$3.50].
LeeLoo444 folds.
BurdTurglar calls [$3.50]. - a raise from Phil means he has 4 cards
TGoldman: OWNED
HakAllah: lol
BadbeatPhil: hardly
TGoldman folds.
BadbeatPhil: raise the turn, XXXXhead
HakAllah: cute couple
HakAllah folds.
** Dealing Flop ** [ 9s, 6c, 7c ]
BadbeatPhil checks.
BurdTurglar checks.
** Dealing Turn ** [ 8h ]
BadbeatPhil checks.

The opponent is Phil, so his range is pretty much, well, rangey. He isn't quite tilting, but as you can tell from the chat he isn't exactly happy with TG, lol. I'm not sure what my image is, but I have been somewhat card dead on this table so I might seem like I'm playing pretty tight for 4/5 handed (LeeLoo was in and out on this table).

I checked the flop because I wasn't really hoping to get into a bidding war to see the turn. I figure if I catch my miracle 8 then I'll probably get paid off. If I get a low then fine, if not then I can see a reasonably cheap river. Phil and Hak have been quite aggro, as expected, and I tend to get somewhat calling stationey when playing shorthanded with LAGish types, with the occasional steal to keep afloat while waiting for a hand like this.

Turn is obviously the card I want to see, but how to best extract as much as possible without giving my hand away and hopefully not getting sucked out for half the pot in the process?

I went with the weakish lead for about 2/3 pot. I figure that might look like a steal attempt and Phil will pounce on my apparent weakness. He did, but then what's my best play?

I figured a minraise would be too blatant a 'hey, call me please' move so I potted back. Phil called and I scooped, but was I more the beneficiary of tilt then good play?

i push hard. if he has the same low and no high, you get to quarter his stack or you get to hog the whole pot if villain can fold.. if villain's chasing a flush with a low draw (nut or otherwise), it will all go in only on the turn -- it might be hard to extract the max if the river blanks villain's draw and/or counterfeits villain's low. furthermore, if villain has a high only hand, certain river cards may kill your action.

villain likes his hand, and given that you have nut-nut, i'd charge the maximum to continue. occassionaly villain's gin card will come (e.g. [2c] if villain has A3xx and the flush draw) and you get scooped. nothing you can do about that other than count all your money from the times the fishy didn't suckout on you.

100% the beneficiary of tilt. I was fuming after hak bluffed me with a dry ace in the previous hand and goldman played like a tool and rivered his flush. I'd simply lost it. After you put in the second raise I was 100% certain we were tying (as in quartered) or you had me beat - and most probably beat. You're more or less a nutpeddler, after all.

Sorry to steal your thunder, but the weak lead had nothing to do with my decision to raise. :) I will always raise second straight shorthanded. The tilt bit was pushing all in after you reraised.

I think shorthanded with 1.67 stacks deep against a thinking player, you should just call my raise, or maybe min raise, as no decent or semi decent player is going to put in 160BB on one street without the nut nut or very close. The majority of hands will not be good enough to call a weak lead followed by a pot reraise. Getting sucked out for half is a risk you take here.

Given the state I was in, you probably played the hand perfectly (with the exception of the weak lead ;))

BIG WORDS
It's good to know about four or five biggish words you can stuff into a conversation so you sound well read. Don't fuck them up the way black people do, but don't overuse them either. We recommend putting your fancy word next to a swear. Here are some examples: "…so she walks in all precocious like we give a shit," or "…and it's the same old pedantic bullshit he's always going on about," or "She's got this big fucking turgid zit right in the centre of her face."

Thanks Phil. I'll have to kick 10% to Hak and TG for tilting you I guess. :D
