My turn action? 20 PLO8

Postby tunkpirate7 » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:04 pm

Villain has a stack and half and has my full stack covered. He hasn't done anything too stupid, but I'm not really paying attention and have only been there for about 10 mins.

I have [As][Jd][8s][2h] and limp in late position. Flop is seen by 6 (pot 1.20). Flop comes [Kc][Qs][7d]. Checked around. Turn brings [Ts] (woot).. I bet .60 button calls and SB min raises to 1.20. Folds around to me, Should I repot it or let them draw to non nut flushes (and maybe full houses :()

Repot and let them draw anyway.

Half pot bet on the turn good? Does it give away my hand or give off a sense of weakness?

They don't have sense nor senses. Full pot. Some of them will call since they still have a backdoor low draw.

More reasonable answer: if you half pot it and one donk calls, then other sheep may follow (actually correctly drawing to the boat now). Trust me, they won't fold a set to a full pot bet. Most of them won't fold a lower flush draw either.

full pot and repot when raised. they likely have the same straight and you could easily be freerolling him. if not, they might have the straight with two pair and you still have more outs than him and if he doesn't have the straight, make him pay with his set or whatever he has. if he doesn't come along, it likely he didn't have much. If you get him to fold J9 straight, so be it.

I agree with briachek. Half pot is not a good bet when anyone with a set or two pair has either ten of 4 outs to derail you. When you re-raise it needs to be the max because you're beautifully freerolling against similar straights and need to make boat draws pay the max.

not much to add reallly.

key point... it's rarely correct to try and get cute with your bet sizes in an attempt to lure people in. this is often incorrect mathematically (i.e., you're giving people correct odds to call) and almost always strategically (people who will call a less-than-pot bet will almost always call a PSB). the main exception to this is on the river, esp when you're holding the nuts. at that point, esp. if the pot is big, a smaller bet may be called for. the smaller bet can be used to induce a call or induce a bluff. when you move up in levels, it can also be used as a kind of reverse psychology bluff (e.g., his bet is small, he MIUST want me to call). anyway, don't be shy about betting the pot at lower levels... if they're calling, they're calling regardless of the size of your bet.
