Not sure why you have two topics with different insights, but ok. To answer your question though, it's a matter of feel. An 8 is very solid against some players after the first draw and tricky to play against others. Also depends on the rest of your cards. 8765x is a hand where you can't stand much heat at all, but 87432 is a hand where you can break if you have to. Generally standing pat behind an opponent drawing 1 at the last draw with a ten though is the best way to go. The 9, especially a 9 you can reasonably break if needed, is next prefered to stand pat after the first draw. A pat 8 is probably the hardest of the bunch to play.
