Some baseline 7 Stud Stats

I have played quite a bit of 7 Stud but not a whole lot recently as I have concentrated on games where I can multitable more easily as I find that playing just 2 tables of 7 Stud dramatically decreases my overall play. That being said I have started to play more recently as a change from getting my ass handed to me in limit holdem for a few weeks now. Although I still don't have a tremendous amount of info in my database to reach some far flung perspective as to what "optimal" numbers are for 7 stud statistics I will throw out these preliminary numbers as something to work with and refine over time. These numbers are probably a little biased in the high direction for winning % etc because I have just been crushing the games during this time period since I got PT Stud. If there are other folks out there with alot of hands of winning stud please feel free to throw your numbers in the mix so that perhaps we can ascertain some range of "quality" stats so that players can somewhat judge where they might stand. Some of the factors that will affect things such as entering pot% etc. will be/should be tied to the ante structure. These numbers are for 1-2 7 Stud with a 0.25 ante and a 0.50 bring-in. This is a high ante structure that favors entering a few more pots than normal.

How valuable are you guys finding PT for 7 stud? I just started playing stud and am finding the games at Stars to be fairly juicy, even at 5/10. 10/20 seems to be much tougher, but I think still beatable (once I get more experience). I would like to get it but I'm not sure its worth it since I only play 7 Stud occasionally as a change of pace from NL hold'em.

It's not nearly as valuable for stud as it is for holdem, IMO. There are just too many more variables in playing a stud hand that it's hard to draw a lot of conclusions from the numbers alone.

I'm finding it most helpful keeping track of opponents' tendencies and keeping an eye on my bottom line.

PT for Stud is free for now, as it's in beta. He's not selling it yet. So if you have any interest at all in it, download it and check it out.

Given that the sample size is small, given that there's not a hell of a lot of precedence out there for these Stud stats and given that I'm skeptical about these numbers even for holdem ...

... the thing that jumps out at me is that you need to be more aggressive in the early streets to establish/protect your strong starting hands. Your VP seems low, which tells me you're restricting yourself to the best starting hands, so you need to be strong with them early to take control of the hand -- particularly by completing and/or reraising third street.

Would I be wrong in guessing that you're particularly tight/passive?

I'll have to concur with flafishy here. Don't sweat about running people out with a raise on third with your big pocket pairs because that is what you want to happen and at the lower limits it doesn't happen enough from my standpoint but still they are going to have to pay the full price if they want to see 4th street. The early streets you should be pounding on whoever is left in the pot if you plan on continuing the hand regardless if you think you have the best hand at times. I raise and reraise all of the time on third and 4th street when I know 100% that I am behind in the hand. My goal in these situations is to drive the other players out and thus increase by winning % from say 34% up to 45% if I can get it heads up. The extra dead money in the pot if I can get them to fold makes up for this overall % being lower than 50% as well as creates an image for you that is very favorable because people will fear getting involved in a pot when you are in because they know it is going to likely cost them multiple upon multiple bets to see it through. You can not be afraid to let the chips fly early on in a stud hand if you are involved.
