I reraise double what he raised, and he calls.. the river brings a 2 .. so my nut straight has turned into a mediocre flush... he bets out, i just call afraid of the other flush and i took down the pot anyway, he mucked.

I was so passive. Someone bets the min against me now, I raise 4x with top/second pair or a draw (6 max). I reraise the min on the turn after hitting my gutshot? Wow, I love the fact that I had no idea about implied odds, it was just a term that I had heard thrown around. I was so bad that it hurts ... I didn't even have the sense to say what limit, what the pot size was... anything.

I'm awful. I decided to take a shot at the 50NL tonight because I thought it would be cool and I'm good enough. I get AA utg and limp reraise to 5 from a min bet. Flop comes all unders, I bet full pot and get min raised. I push like a donk. DAMNIT HE HAS A SET WHAT A SURPRISE

Today was comical. And by comical I mean it makes me want to cry. The last three hands I can remember before I quit. I have QQ and raise 6x pf. One caller, flop of 2/3/8 all spades. I raise, he reraises and I push with little left in my stack. He has J7 of spades for the flopped flush. J7s for 6x pf? thanks, come again. How about not winning coinflips? I just watch a guy lose with KT vs AA on a KTTA3 board. He's berating the other player as he goes all in. I know its tilt. I pick up 99 and call. He has K8, nails his K on the turn and im done. Very next hand, he's still yelling about it and goes all in again. I pick up 77 (now i'm frustrated, i will admit) and call his all in again. A6 picks up an ace on the flop and GOOD GAME YOU JUST 3 OUTED ME TWICE. With a quarter of my roll gone, I'm no longer confident about my game. There aren't enough 10NL games to make it worth my while... I don't know what to do. I know I can beat this game. I just know it. I don't know if its coincidence that I run this badly, or if it's the poker gods trying to tell me something. I think I'll continue playing at 20NL, and if I run bad enough to fall down to 10x buyin here I'll quit and reasses.

NOTE: most of my losses today came from taking shots at 50NL (which I should have known) and 50PLO (which I should've known)... I probably only lost 2.5 buyins 20NL.

EDIT: looking back I think maybe I tilted. I still had an edge, but I was pushing too hard against opponents when I could have waited for a better time. It happens though I guess.

Yeah I suck. I'm down to 299 total, moving back to limit for awhile. I just need a change, it seems that I get into too many situations in NL as a marginal favorite and I would need a 40x roll for that. At least in limit I'm not throwing around stacks (which is just as much variance, but doesn't really affect me as much mentally). I'm gonna start at .25/.50 bets so that gives me 600xBB. If I lose 100 I think I might be done with poker for awhile because it just makes me sad to lose. Or maybe I'll just play MTT tourneys, anyone have any insight into the roll needed for that? Would 300 be enough to play 5 freezeouts and rebuys+addons, as well as $10 freezeouts? I play a sort of game that involves making the money a lot (I'd say 40% of the time) but rarely getting deep (would this be good or bad as a full time MTT tourneyer?)

as a general rule i don't like journals. i think they often cause the authors to be too results-oriented. there is A LOT of variance in poker, and the "long term" is REALLY long. that being said, the reasons i'm doing the plo8 journal are: 1) it will be fun to track something like this if i'm successful, and 2) to motivate me to play more hours.

regarding #2, i find that it's too easy to bitch out sometimes when i'm busy with work and whatnot and just not play. if i have some sort of tangible goal (e.g., playing at the 1000s) that can be reached mainly by putting in the hours, then i think it will motivate me to play more. sadly, i've been sick recently and work has been a MASSIVE bitch, so we'll see if the journal actually helps me put in the hours.
