4 hands to peruse

Postby DODGYKEN » Mon Mar 07, 2005 12:36 pm

More hands!

Hand 1:
I'm in CO with $98 and get Qc 8s 9s Ts. 4 call to me, I limp, button calls, and 8 see the flop. Flop is 8h 6d 8d. Checked to me and I bet pot of $8. EP and MP both call - they are both terrible players. Turn is the 7c. Checked to me again and I bet pot of $32 with my straight and outs to a full house. EP folds and MP calls. RIver is the Jh and MP checks. How do you play this? I checked it down.

Hand 2:
Just a small one for hand 2. I have Jd 9c Kc Td in the CO and my opponent in this hand starts with $68 and is BB. I raised to $5 pre flop, and 6 of us saw the flop. Flop was Ks Js 6h. BB bet out $30.50 and everyone folded to me. How do you play? I was in between raising him all-in and folding, and I opted for the latter. I think I may well have been ahead though.

Hand 3:
I am again in the CO and have $89. I get Td 8d Ks 9c and limp in. 6 see the flop of 5d Kd 8h. It's checked to me and I bet pot of $6. SB and an MP call. MP is bad. Turn is the 7s. Checked to me again and I bet pot of $24. I think I could still be ahead and I have outs if I'm not. SB folds and MP calls. River is the 9d and I check it down after MP.

Hand 4:
I'm in MP with $116 and get Tc As 9s Ah. I limp and the button, a truly terrible player, raises to $7.50. 4 others calls and so do I. 6 see the flop of 4h 8c 2d. It's checked to the button who bets $25 into a $45 ish pot. All fold to me (I am last to act). I decided to raise all-in here (I had him covered). This player was BAD and I didn't believe he had any piece of that flop. His bet was pathetic and everyone else had folded. In fact - I even quite fancied a call as I thought I was winning! How do you think I played this? I think, in this case, being to the right of the raiser helped me.

Thanks for any comments,

Martin

Hand 1, I like you checking it down because you didn't fill up and they were calling you the whole way. They could easily be looking for the check raise.

Hand 2, you were looking for a flop with a Q and another straight card and a flush draw. You ended up with top two pair and a gutshot to the ass end of the straight. I like the fold.

Hand 3. He was either chasing a straight and hit it or hit a higher flush. Only a small chance of a set because he was so passive so I don't think you will push him out of the pot. I check is down and hope he's a bad player that called along with two pair and loses to your flush.

Hand 4, complete read play there. If he's that bad, you could do what you did but be prepared to lose a good portion of the time. I hate AA and never know how to play it without a set or nut flush draw so my opinion doesn't mean much on this one. (if it means anything on the other hands :P )

1) Good check on the river. I might slow down on the turn but with two bad players betting again isn't too bad. Be prepared to lose to a higher-kickered set quite often though!

2) Good fold I think. If you're ahead it's not by much. It's pretty dependent upon the opponent but against a solid player I think there's a bit much money to go in to take a pop at this against a decent player. Problem with a flop like that is if you're up against a draw, he may have up to 50% of the equity, but if he has a set you're in a lot of trouble. In mitigation there is already a lot of money in the pot, though, so it might've been worth a risk.

3) I like the flop bet. On the turn I would check if either of these guys is tricky or aggressive and has previous convictions for trapping or check raising. Otherwise I don't think the bet is too bad. You need some fold equity but given they both checked, perhaps they're willing to drop, so the bet has value. Position is vital here; when you have a variety of mediocre draws and a semi-made hand, you can gauge the river play so much easier if you are last to act. I would be check-folding this rather than raising it out of position, but last to act I don't mind your bets at all. No way you bet the river, good check.

4) Fair enough if he's that bad. Do not call, you need to fold or raise. Even if he has one little pair he still has a good chunk of pot equity (potentially 40-odd%) so making him lay down if there's any chance at all would be a great result. I don't like your aces much though in this spot, I think you need to be pretty sure that this guy is BAD here to put in.

looks like i'm pretty close to what monk would do. Now if I could only apply it well to actually playing the game.

Hand 1 - I won with my straight and my opponent had trip 8's with a T kicker.

Hand 3 - I won with my flush - other guy had 8744.

Hand 4 - The opponent folded. Monk - for your benefit it was Riggy1.

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it.
