Before I sat down to play today I had decided to start writing an Omaha journal. I'm a relative noob having only played a bit over 10k hands. I'm currently roaming the PLO $25 games at Party, usually 4-tabling.

Of course one of the reasons for doing it is of course to improve my game. I do make a lot of mistakes, most of which are embarrasing and shameful, and in order to avoid them I made a rule: I will post every sessions biggest winning hand together with the biggest losing hand for public ridicule.

Now that I can't donk off my bankroll safely in the quiet of my own home and under the cover of anonymity, I'm hoping it will shame me into playing better. It hasn't worked so far.

First entry:

Today was crazy. Two players were going absolutely ape-shit every other hand, and they were at all my tables, both of them at two, one of them at the rest. I recognised one of them from my database but the other was new to me, but the new guy seemed to provoke the other guy into playing even more aggressively. Here's their stats:

Old Crazy guy: 66/30
New Crazy Guy: 44/27

With two guys raising 30 and 27% of the pots preflop there's about a 50% chance of seeing an unraised flop... assuming nobody else raises! When they were up against eachother they were crazy, betting, re-raising and pushing with all kinds of junk, they were slightly less insane in multiway pots but I've absolutely NEVER seen this much action in a game.

I was frankly scared to enter a pot. They wouldn't just raise, but re-raise and push preflop with hands such as QTJ4r and KK52s. I played for a total of 2.5 hours and was pretty much exhausted after it.

So, how did I do? Well, as promised I'll post the biggest wins and losses with the proper excuses and rationalisations. The very biggest loss was from an all-in preflop against one of the maniacs so I'll just give you the short and ambarrasing story:

I have 9776ds in MP and limp, maniac raises and then a shorty pushes. I decide to flat call hoping to see a flop but of course the maniac re-raises me. I'm thinking "F-ck it, this hand can't be much of a dog even if he has AA (which is by no means a certainity)" so I push. Turns out he HAS a ragged AA93r and I lose. After checking the hand in twodimes it turns out I had almost 40% equity though, way to go!

Ok, so how about a loss that actually went past the preflop stage...

The (second) Biggest Loss of the Day:

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $/$
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $25
UTG+1: $20
MP1: $33
MP2: $39
MP3: $40
CO: $73
Button: $53
Hero: $80
BB: $50

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is SB with [As] [Jc] [9c] [6s]
2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, CO raises to $35, Button folds, Hero calls $25 (pot was $35), BB calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls.

Flop: [8c] [Jh] [Tc] ($175, 5 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP1 bets $50, 2 folds, Hero calls $50 (pot was $225), BB raises to $45, MP1 folds, Hero calls all-in $5, BB calls.

Turn: [3c] ($335, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $335)

River: [Js] ($335, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $335)

Results:
Final pot: $335
BB shows 5d Qc Td Th
Hero doesnacirc;??t show As Jc 9c 6s

The preflop raiser is the New Maniac and the check/raiser on the flop is the old one. Turns out I have 46% equity here, that's nice. I figured top set was less likely because I have the J, I'm ahead of every draw and should be a coinflip against a made hand like middle set and probably ahead of two-pairs. The guy who bet half pot seemed weak/tight so I was thinking he probably had bottom set, top two or something, reducing the chance of a boat showing up. (Ps. Sums seems to have been messed up in the converter)

The Biggest Win of the Day:

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
8 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $25
UTG+1: $33.80
Hero: $32.80
MP2: $22.25
CO: $41.02
Button: $24.30
SB: $5.16
BB: $5.55

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is MP1 with [Js] [Ts] [7d] [Td]
UTG+1 raises to $0.5, Hero calls $0.5 (pot was $0.85), 4 folds, BB calls.

Flop: [Th] [8s] [9h] ($1.6, 4 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 bets $0.81, Hero raises to $3.98, BB raises all-in $5.05, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls $1.07 (pot was $15.68).

Turn: [3s] ($16.75, 3 players + 1 all-in - Main pot: $16.75)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $15.95, UTG+1 calls.

River: [6d] ($48.65, 3 players + 1 all-in - Main pot: $16.75, Sidepot 1: $31.9)
UTG+1 checks, Hero raises all-in $11.3, UTG+1 calls.

Results:
Final pot: $71.25
UTG+1 shows Ac 8c 7h Ah
Hero shows Js Ts 7d Td
BB doesn't show 9s 9d 6c Qd

I actually don't think I botched this hand, which is a nice change of pace. I have the preflop miniraiser pretty firmly on the nut flush draw, probably with an overpair. It's obvious he doesn't have the nuts so I'm going to keep pounding with my 2:nd nuts. Nice of him to call the river bet as well.

All in all I played 469 hands and made a nice $110, although I may possibly have gotten an ulcer as well from the maniacs.

Stats:
Hands: 69
Vpip: 26
Pfr: 2.6
Result: +$110

On a side note I invented the Football Spanking Game. It works like this:'

You watch a football game with your spouse. You each pick a certain situation that can occur in a football game. Both partys must approve eachothers choices. Every time the situation occurs the one who picked it gets to spank the other.

We were watching Holland vs Portugal. I picked "Pauleta offside" for my special occurance, my woman picked "Portugeese player gets yellow card". For you who didn't watch the game I can tell you it broke all previous records for bookings and Pauleta was subbed for a defensive midfielder. Most -EV bet my ass ever made.

Felt a bit tired when I sat down today, and when the tables were being closed for maintenance I took that as a good excuse to quit after just one hour. Managed to get in almost 200 hands playing at four tables though.

It's been a week since I last played, just haven't felt like it. The rust shows pretty quickly though. Managed to make a small profit of half a buy in but didn't really play very well. Got lucky once, unlucky once and a few OK and Not-OK plays inbetween. Had one of my favorite fishes at the table (94/10 today) but didn't manage to get a hand against him.

The middling hands are still giving me problems. Top two, 2:nd nut flushes and AA-junk. Maybe I should tighten up and just stay away from those sort of hands but I have two strong arguments against that:
1. I won't learn
2. Against people playing 50% and more of their hands I will lose value folding them

Here's the biggest loss of the day, a good example of the middling hands:

UTG just lost the majority of his stack playing AA absolutely horrible, raising OOP then betting and calling off his stack unimproved against two opponents. Here's the hand: http://livepokerforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15736
I figure he's pushing any two and being a bit miffed after the last hand, and not having had time to reload, I decide to play a marginal hand (to say the least).

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
10 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $2.03
Hero: $17.76
UTG+2: $56.66
MP1: $44.45
MP2: $24.50
MP3: $6.45
CO: $13.96
Button: $27.85
SB: $24.75
BB: $9.62

Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is UTG+1 with [8d] [Kh] [9s] [Qh]
UTG raises to $0.85, Hero calls $0.85 (pot was $1.2), 4 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.

Flop: [3h] [9h] [Jd] ($4.35, 5 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $2, CO calls, 3 folds.

Turn: [Kd] ($8.35, 2 players)
Hero bets $7.95, CO raises all-in $11.11, Hero calls $3.16 (pot was $27.41).

River: [Ad] ($30.57, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $30.57)

Results:
Final pot: $30.57
Hero shows 8d Kh 9s Qh
CO shows Js 5s 9d Qd

My bet on the flop was 'designed' to feel out the opposition and hopefully bring our a call from the shorty who has nothing left and make it HU. When I improve on the turn I obviously want to take it down, if he has the made straight there I've got a decent amount of outs and I will pretty much be all-in. Turns out he called the flop with top two, then got it in with middle two.. it's 50/50 on the flop and I am a hefty 75/25 favorite on the turn, so at least I didn't get the money in bad. I still don't like how I played it though.

Biggest Win of The Day:

I have a note on the guy that bets the turn that he overplays marginal (made) hands so I figure I'll get some money out of him if I hit on the river. A jack might be an out as well. I was considering flat calling the river to entice an overcall but if the other guy will call $11 he'll probably call the rest as well. He insta-folded though so I guess he didn't have much.

Thanks Bobby.

So before lunch time I went out to visit a friend of mine. He lives a few miles outside of town in a small cabin. Think Unabomber but cosier. I took the bus but on the way out I stopped by a coffy shop in the community close by to pick up some bread and pastries, and ran into one of my best friends. Freak coincidence. He gave me a ride the last bit of the way.

So the unabomber cabin is on top of a small mountain/hill, overlooking a lake. Very nice. We went out canoeing for a couple of hours, stopped at some small islands, had some coffy, swam around and basked in the sun for a while. It's a record warm summer here. Then we took a long walk to a "close by" coffy place run by some excentric guy in the middle of the woods. Tuned out it was an hour walk but we got picked up by some nice ladies who had decided to go there.

Left for home at about 7 pm. It's half an hour walk to the nearest bus stop and I was home at about 8.30. Took a much needed dump (no water toilet at his place) and sat down to play Omaha. Big mistake.

For those of you who didn't know. Spending 9 hours in the sun, swimming, walking, climbing and canoeing, is not a good preparation for poker. My brain was working in slow motion and not even firing on half of the cylinders. I proceeded to dump almost 4 buyins in an hour before realising how bad I was playing. Then I tried to concentrate some more and shape up, managed to salvage close to a buyin and ended up "only" down $77. Pretty -EV decision to decide to play in my condition. As promised, here are the two biggest hands....

Biggest Loss of The Day (one of many):

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game

BB checks, UTG checks, MP2 checks, Hero checks.

Turn: [6d] ($7, 4 players)
BB checks, UTG bets $7.7, MP2 folds, Hero calls $7.7 (pot was $14.7), BB folds.

River: [3h] ($22.4, 2 players)

Results:
Final pot: $53.3
UTG shows 9h Th 6c 8d
Hero shows Ac 8c Jc Ad

Here I decide my two-pair is good... in my defense Villain was playing 85%+ of his hands and was pretty aggressive post flop but come on... I should bet this flop and give up if I am called or raised. This was one of three times I managed to get stacked with AA... one of them I had top set, guy called with a gutshot on the flop, again with bottom set on the turn and quadded up on the river though so that's hardly bad play by me.

Did I do ANYTHING good? Mjeh... barely.

Biggest Win of The Day:

just started reading, but i have a request.

could you please add some twodimes numbers for equity on the relevant streets. i imagine that in a lot of your "biggest loss" hands you will actually have enough equity to get the money in the middle.

Thanks for all the response everyone. Don't have time to fill you in on what has been going on in my bathroom so I'll just stick to the important stuff today.

Went to a café for breakfast right before noon with a friend who had slept over. Had a nice baguette with some sort of sheep cheese mix and chicken, and a frappino. Very warm but it felt like rain was in the air and right after I got back home the thunder and rain started.

When I started up partypoker I found a 'buddy' sitting at the omaha tables so I put myself on the waiting list of all his tables. He plays 90% of his hands and raises 15% preflop. I have about 300 hands with him but I'm only up about $12.

I've made a decision to tight up my preflop game a bit in all positions. I figure it is a trade off in boredom. If you play a lot of hands you will be bored post flop since you'll be folding a lot, if you play fewer hands you'll be bored preflop but have more fun post flop. We'll see how long I can keep it up. Anyway my vpip went down to 24 from about 30.

Not that much action on the tables. As per usual my last hand of the session was a disaster and will be featured here as...

The Biggest Loss of The Day:

I've unclicked the post blind box and this is the last table still active...

To my own amazment it turns out he's actually a decent favorite with his wrap. I've got about 40% equity, he's got 53% and the muppet has 7%. Well I aint folding it in a million years of course but finding that out eased the pain a little anyway. I don't think there's any other way to play this hand so I was pretty much destined to lose a buy-in + change.

The second biggest loss was also with an AA hand, I limp/call a raise with AAKJ, flop comes KQT, preflop raiser check/calls my pot bet, turn is a K and he check/raises all-in (practically a miniraise). I don't know if I should have gotten away from it, I mean what else can he have than QQ93..? Well maybe not the 93 part but... at least I had some redraws, albeit only six of them.

Now to something more positive, what you've all been waiting for...

It actually took me my whole time bank to put him in on the river. I finally decided he couldn't have played JJ that way. Either way he played it abysmally in my opinion by not getting the money in on the turn. And what kind of a river check/raise is that!?

Equity wise I'm actually a dog on the flop (32/68) and of course on the turn (12.5/87.5) but I don't think I played it *that* bad, twice as much money went in on the river anyway ;)

All in all...
Hands: 366
Vpip: 24%
Pfr: 2.5%

Result: +$13

A pretty mediocre session obviously, so later I decided to play some LO8 which is probably my favorite game. Don't know why, since I never make any money on it and always get sucked out on but maybe I'm just a masochist. After 700 hands over like 4 hours I ended up losing a sum total of $1,05. Way to go me!

Now I'm getting picked up for some taco and the World Cup bronze match. Actually cheering for the Germans believe it or not. Those f-cking portugeese moviestars need to get a lesson. Go Klose.

It's really nice and warm here, weather is abolutely amazing. I've taken advantage of that fact by sitting in front of my computer all day without showering. Girlfriend isn't back until tomorrow so things like showering, brushing my teeth and eating have taken a back seat.

The sweat and dirt has formed a a thin oily film on my chest which actually isn't unpleasant to touch. The smell is starting to bother me though so once I finish typing up this I'm going to take a shower and possibly order a pizza, and watch the World Cup.

Started out with some LO8 today. I was going to go through my DB and look for leaks, mainly in starting hands, but forgot about it. That will have to be a project for after the pizza. Played a bit over 250 hands of LO8 and ended up a massive $0.52, which should be enough to get an extra topping. The tables started getting really rocky, with vpips 25-35, so I started up some PLO tables instead. Of course the first hand I get when I switch to Omaha High is A235s. Copy/paste to the other table anyone?

The PLO session was pretty bad. In my first four AA hands I was down $40 or so. One was pretty horribly played though, I re-raised a loose raiser OOP got two callers. Flop comes all low hearts, I have the [Ah] and just push the rest of my stack in. Turns out he raise/called with QJ92 and the queen suited in hearts so he called and busted me as well as the other guy who tagged along with middle set. I'm probably going to stop raising AA unless it's double suited since I'm obviously too stupid to be able to play it post flop.

Two players were kind of kicking my ass. At one table the guy on my immediate right was playing 90% and raising 30% preflop, sounds great right? Well I couldn't catch a hand against him. Everytime I bet my draw in position he would flat call me, my draw would whiff and he'd pot it into me on the river. I tried to catch him bluffing once with AA but he has flopped bottom two with 92 and runner-runnered a wheel. He's up a full buyin on me but I added him to my buddy list for future revenge.

The other guy was weird. He was on my left and I got the impression he had it in for me or something. He was pretty loose but it seemed the ONLY time he would raise preflop was when I limped infront of him. And he was swedish too.. what happened to solidarity?!

Alright, so here's what you've been waiting for...

The Biggest Loss of The Day:

Opponent is pretty standard but raises a bit too much preflop. Obviously my mini-CR on the flop is absolutely perverse and I guess I *deserved* to be punished. I just didn't want to push him off what I was sure was AA, and since I have the club draw I figured what the hell. I was also hoping that he'd re-pot it in case he had the nut flush draw. On the turn there's suddenly a broadway draw possibility so I of course pot it in case he has something like AAKJ or AKQT or whatever.

I'm exactly 70/30 on the flop and 80/20 on the turn. Of course the poker gods decides to give me one up the poop chute for miniraising. Had I made a real check/raise on the flop I would have been able to push my stack in on the turn and of course that is what I should have done. Now to something more pleasant...

Not much to say about this one. I'm fairly sure he has the same straight as me on the flop and on the turn he confirms it. Obviously I am happy to get it in with my excellent redraw. I was a bit pissed at the time so I admit to giving my screen the finger and screaming "That's why you want a redraw, bitch!!". Turns out he did have a bit of a redraw, but mine is obviously a lot sexier. I was hoping for a [Kh] on the turn but hey, I'll take it.

On the flop it's even money, but when the turn rolls off I'm a substantial favorite with 62.5% equity against his 37.5%. I also think my hand has the advantage that if I hit my redraw he will pay me off (assuming we're not all-in) wheras I obviously won't if he hits his.

Hands: 438
Vpip: 29% (need to tighten up again)
Pfr: 2.3% (f-cking AA hands.. I spit on you!)

Result: +$22

Now I have some tough decisions to make. First off, what pizza should I get? My standard pizza is with salami, bananas, pineabble and onion, but last time I tried some 'Mexican' pizza with beef that was good, but the jalapenos were *Really* hot... also, should I take a shower and brush my teeth? And should I masturbate before taking the shower (after is obviously much less attractive)? My girlfriend won't be home until tomorrow night and has been away since thursday so obviously I am feeling it... still, it does seem a bit wasteful... decisions, decisions, decisions... if only Sklansky had written a The Theory of Life to help with these.

Bananas and pineapple form the very foundation of a good pizza. I would switch the salami for pepperoni if I could but, and this is messed up, not a single pizzeria in this town has pepperoni! Don't ask me, it's crazy.

My gf's mother turned 70 today. Fortunately the majority of her children were away so it was only a very small gathering and I managed to get away fairly quickly, and my mood was pretty good anyway because this morning I discovered a wonderful thing called PLO8, where donks like me can pay a lot of money for a few seconds of excitement followed by anxiety. Kind of like Kennys hookers and blow.

I've played it once before, by mistake. Then I sat down thinking I was at a normal PLO table, pushed my top set very hard and was surprised that some donk called his stack off with some weird low card hand. Fortunately my GF pointed out it said "Hi-Lo" at the top and I bolted with my quick win.

This time I came prepared to take all the fish's money, and started off with this:

The Biggest Loss of The Day:

UTG calls, 2 folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls $0.25 (pot was $0.85), 2 folds, SB raises to $1.4, 3 folds, Hero calls $1.25 (pot was $2.3).

Flop: [6c] [Jc] [5d] ($3.55, 2 players)
SB bets $3.6, Hero raises to $14.4, SB calls all-in $9.26.
Uncalled bets: $1.54 returned to Hero.

Turn: [Jh] ($29.27, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $29.27)

River: [9s] ($29.27, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $29.27)

Results:
Final pot: $29.27
Hero shows 3s 2d 6d Ah
SB shows Tc Ac 2s As

If you look up "Overaggressive donk" in the PLO8 dictionary there will be a picture of me.

Fortunately I turned on my elite preflop-pushing skills later and sucked out on this other donk. AA iz no guud!!
