HU with Middle Pair, Villain Overbets River Scare Card...

Postby EscapePlan9 » Mon Jul 17, 2006 9:37 pm

Doyle's Room hand histories are awful, so I have to do this from memory.

I have T8o in the BB. SB limps, I check.

Flop comes [Kh] [5d] [3s]
SB checks, I check behind.

Turn [Th]
SB checks, I bet 2/3 pot. He calls.

River [Ah]
SB bets 4x pot... I think forever and fold.

A lot of draws came in and there's two overcards, but his overbet really made me think he didn't want a call.

Villain hadn't been extremely loose or aggressive. No particular reads on his play. Nothing out of line and I never caught any of the hands he showed down (nearly impossible to check hand histories with Doyle's Room anyways).

Big overbets on river scare cards... what do you say?

Unless you have a VERY solid read that this guy likes to use the scare card bluff, I think it is a good lay down.

There is one person that I play against regularly that just loves to use that play and I would seriously consider calling her, but absent a read - lay it down.
