flynnmclean is a reasonable but not great player. He plays very straight forward but sometimes makes some loose calls. I am assuming this is standard but thought I would check since I haven't played in a while.

I play it exactly the same. So it must be wrong.

It's a bluff/semi-bluff to remove hands like AQ/A4 and any scrappy low that won't want to call a bet. It would be a pain in the arse for him to flip up something like AT78 with a flush draw.
