Three all-in hands

Postby Stoneburg » Thu Sep 14, 2006 3:11 pm

Lately I've been trying to "lag it up" a bit when playing PLO. My 'normal' style is 30/2 and my new style is more like 35/7. It hasn't worked out so far, pretty much broke even first time and today I was down almost 4 buyins before I switched back to a more normal style.

These three hands all have two things in common. I raised them preflop and I ended up all-in on the flop. Would love some feedback on the play, both preflop and on the flop. All take place on Partys full ring $25 tables.

Unfortunately the hand converter isn't working so I'll just give a condensed version:

[8s] [3s] [Ac] [As]

Donk UTG raises to .75 and MP calls. I pot it and guy behind me calls as does UTG and the MP. Donk has half a stack, the rest of us has effective stacks 100bb or so. Four people to the flop.

Flop comes [6s] [3c] [3d]

UTG donk pushes for $10.55, MP flat calls and I push my stack in.

[8s] [9s] [Qh] [Jh]

Two first players limp, one unknown and one super-tight, I am in third position and pot raise. BB and tight player flat calls so we're 3 to the flop and I have position. My stack is a tad short at 85bb and they have me covered.

Flop comes [7s] [Js] [Td]

Checked to me and I pot it, BB check/raises max, tight player folds and I push my remaining 20bb on top of it.

Obviously this is a super huge flop for me, I have the nut straight with a flush re-draw, straight-flush draw and a draw to a higher straight. However... should I raise this preflop in such early position? Should I slowplay the flop?

[Ah] [3d] [As] [5s]

Supershort (5bb) unknown open raises in MP, I re-raise directly behind, both blinds call and of course shorty calls all-in. I've got a full stack and both blinds have me covered.

Flop comes [2s] [9h] [8s]

Blinds check to me and I pot it, SB folds and BB check/raises all-in and I call. Should I bet this semi-protected pot with my overpair+flush draw? If SB had bet out instead of check/raise, what should I do?

I would play all these exactly the same. The flop caller in hand 1 might scare me some. Keep it up.

My lagginess was earlier, when I was raising on draws (not huge ones) and betting scare cards. This is when I calmed down but kept up the preflop raising frequency somewhat. My image should still be pretty good though.

Hand #1
Preflop raiser had KK52 for an overpair and gut shot, flat caller had a 3 with a worse kicker (QJ43ds), running 6's arrived to give me the nut full and leave the guy with QJ43 whining about getting out drawn... he obviously didn't see I had a 3 in my hand and though I had sucked out on him with AA, something I didn't see any need to correct.

Hand #2
I mainly brought this one up because it was such a beautiful flop, and it was the worst played AA hand I have seen. Opponent who check/raised this flop had AA73 and was drawing to a backdoor full house as his only out. My equity: 97.1% :)

Hand #3
I lost against his obvious set . He had T998 and I can't fault his play since I have been CB-ing a decent amount of the time but I think I would just lead out if I was him since the board is so draw heavy.
