The Poker Adventures Of Sir_Raise_Alot

Well here is my archive for all of history to read. The details of my attempt to earn a second income by playing No Limit Hold’em.

Circumstances of life have dictated that I need a second job. I really enjoy strategic competition and as a result Poker would be a perfect second job for me (if I can win).

I was playing Limit Hold’em $5/$10 and doing pretty well. I was making about two big bets an hour. Then two family crisis happen at the same time I was on a down swing. The two cash outs and the down swing left my ban roll under $200.00. I decided that I did not want to go through the grind of rebuilding it to $3,000.00 so I could play at the $5/$10 level and started looking at other options. Read somewhere that in No Limit I only needed 10 to 20 buy-ins. Well at the $50.00 NL level that added up to less than $3,000.00 so I started studying No Limit.

I was very surprised to find out that there were not a lot of books on No Limit cash games. Just about every thing I found on No Limit was geared towards tournament play. Play Poker Like the Pros by Phil Helmuth and Super System by Doyle Brunson were the only two books I found with No Limit Sections that seemed geared towards cash games. Then I started to search the net for No Limit forums. I found two but they were very basic. I bought an e-book that was suppose to teach me the secrets of No Limit Hold’em (I was desperate). Then I found livepokerforum. There is saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will come”. livepokerforum has enabled me to really get an understanding of what I was reading.

The Poker Tracker articles, The No Limit Ring Game Articles, The Reading List, The Forum and Super System comprise the majority of my No Limit Cash Game knowledge. I have experimented with this knowledge and believe that it will serve me well.

My initial goal is simple and two fold:
1) To become knowledgeable of the Theories and Concepts that govern No Limit Hold’em cash games
2) To earn $250.00 a week playing No Limit Hold’em Cash Games.

Unlike others, I can not take my winnings and add them to my bankroll. I need a minium of $200.00 a week as a second income. $50.00 a week is scheduled for the bankroll.

This historic account of my journey starts out on the $25 No Limit Tables on a Party skin.

Lets see what happens!

Well I have not officially starting playing yet. I have spent the last few days learning Poker Tracker. Then trying to compare GameTime Plus to Playerview. Well I guess Gametime Plus wins since no matter what I do I can not get Playerview to work correctly. I like the way I can customize Playerview but it is a useless feature if I can not get it to show up on the screen. I am also still experimenting with different playing styles.

I have been praticing using Poker Tracker to play my opponents. Excession's Poker Tracker article has been very helpful and enlightning. The only problem I am having now is the fish, showdown muppets and calling stations still have the ability to draw out on me.

After 302 hands I was up $81.00 (did draw out on a lady for a $21.00 pot). $250.00 a week was looking very do able. Then the next session had a set of 4s beat by a str8 on 5th street (One buy in gone).. A set of Jacks beat by a flush when the third flush card came on the river (Another buy in gone). King high flush lost to Ace high flush when fourth spade came on river (One more buy in disappeared). Raised 4x BB with AK and got one caller. Flop came AAT with two diamonds. Decided to take a chance and give free card since I would have ten outs to improve if a diamond came on the turn. Sure nuff, 5 of diamonds came on the turn. Opponent bet $4.00 and I called. River shows another 5. I am thinking to myslef, at last the river has helped me. Now how do I get all of his chips. Opponent bets $5 dollars. I come over the top raising to $15. Opponents goes all in, I shout out loud "Got You"! and called. Opponets shows AT. Well I found out that Aces full with Tens still beat Aces full with fives (Boys and Girls, can you say another buy in gone). Thanks to Super system I did win quite few small pots or I would have went broke :(

I guess here is where I tell myself that this is long term adventure. Where I console myself in the fact that in the long run I will win these hands and make gobs of money. Where I comfort myself knowing that these hands will hold up more often than they will get out drawn. The only problem is I don't want to comfort or console myself. I want to complain. I want to scream and let the poker world know that this is not fair. I want to go find the conspiracy sites and explain how right they are. I want to tell someone how this would never happen in a REAL gambling establsihment and Party/skins must be rigged. I want to share my sorrows with Phil Hellmuth!

I will not do it, because I know it is not true and the only people who would beleive me I don't want to talk to anyway. I will take my beats like a true poker veteran, knowing the odds are in my favor and that in the long run everything will be just find. However, in the short run, that $8.00 an hour job in the mall is looking very good for a second income. [/i]
