There was a thread on UPF about Brunson's aggressive style. Iceman, you mentioned in the thread that his particular style will not work in today's online games...But, I think if you are up against weak competition who are looking to show their money in, then some of his ideas still are viable.
The part I read last night(I am in a five month reading of Super System right now, one idea at a time) was Betting out into the raiser. You mentioned this as well at one point...I thought I had taken the idea from something that you mentioned.
PP NL $25: I had 99 and limped in UTG+1, MP limped, and the button raised to $2. Not a firm read on button, but I felt he could be raising on and ace w/ high kicker, and probably big slick or AQ. He raised $3 a couple of times from other positions with PP's, and also didn't mind pushing his stack in when he was the raiser or at least playing for alot. I had $40 and button had $33.
I called the raise, as did MP. 3 to the flop, $6.50 in pot. Flop came [9s][8d].
I decided to bet out, and bet $4 into the pot...basically a bet looking for a raise. MP folded and button didn't even think about it and raised to $15. Preflop, I put him on a big ace, and not I was certain of it...didn't think he had KQspades or a pocket pair. I also think he might of been putting me on the flush draw, so I decided to push all-in hoping for a call. He called instantly, and when board paired another eight on the turn, I took it down...he had the AK I was hoping for.
This is one of my favorite flops when I suspect someone on a big ace, and I am planning on betting out into preflop raisers with this hand in the future until it stops working...I like the fact that it works really well in NL 25 because the stacks or so small, and people aren't willing to give up TPTK, and want to brawl with big slick...
Still don't understand how he throws away a set yet, still haven't evolved to that point, hard to toss that kind of hand away.
