PLO - Loose preflop re-raise makes a big pot

Postby Stoneburg » Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:30 am

Full ring with blinds 0.5/1.

Reads..
Peppe plays some junky hands. He has bet weak into me on the flop twice and called a pot raise with top and bottom once and just top pair the other time. He won both times (I had AA first hand and a draw the other). I guess he's a block-betting calling station.

Carsus seems very loose aggro and has been caught bluffing a few times and betting hands like top pair or two-pair on a straight board. My first hand at the table I posted in CO and got KKxxds, he limp called my raise. Flop came KQx with a flush draw, shorty bet out, he raised and pushed into my re-raise with AJs for the nut flush and gutshot draw. He hit and stacked me but I've stacked him back after that.

Peppe has 178
Carsus has 255

I've got JJTTs (hearts) UTG+1. Peppe is UTG and Carsus is in MP.

Peppe raises to 3. I re-raise pot to 11.50 and it is folded to Carsus who re-raises to 24, Peppe calls.

I re-raised to start building the pot in position against my target Peppe. I figure I need to re-raise him if I want to be able to stack him post flop since he's got almost a double stack. I'm fairly sure he will put me on AA with my re-raise so if an A flops I can most likely take it down, and if a J or T flops without an A he'll be likely to call me down with a pair or two. Obviously Carsus' re-raise throws a monkey wrench in the machinery. I put him on AA obviously.

Flop comes: [Js] [Ks] [4d]

Peppe checks, I check and Carsus bets 27. Peppe calls.

Looks like Carsus isn't too in love with his hand, judging by how he played the nut flush draw last time I would think he doesn't have it this time. Missed AA seems most likely. Could he really be betting this weak with KK when the board is so draw heavy? Seems doubtful. Peppe should have the flush or straight draw.

I check/raise pot to 182.50. Carsus call, peppe calls all-in.

Turn is the [2h]. I push my last 36.45 in, Carsus calls.

Final pot is 649.84 which is the biggest one I've played so far on this site.

Any glaring mistakes on any street?

I would probably play it the same, but I'd like to

a) be very certain KK isn't out there
or
b) have some sort of draw to go with it (better than your backdoor straight)

But I think this is fair, esp if this is 100SEK PLO
If the river don't kill you, it ain't PLO

Call me cautious/weak/chicken/etc, but based on your reads I dont see a hand that you are dominating. I dont think I want to risk my double stack in this spot against another double stack.

If you would like a little more clarity, I would raise the minimum on the flop to see what action ensues. If there is a reraise, then you are most likely looking at KK. If everyone flats calls, then I would push the turn assuming a brick and reevaluate if a draw makes it there.

I don't like the PF re-raise in FR. I play 6max and I'm usually fine with letting people in to see the flop in 6max with a JJTT type. Less risk of giving a free turn to flops like these where you really need the CR to come through for you.

Flop is perfect. That check really puts Carsus in a rough spot, but forces a bet of him and Peppe's giving action to better your CR and you're committed after that.

If it's a cooler, it's a cooler. After that PF action, that flop's put your stack in the middle. This is a big set, though and I'd expect the two to be counterfeiting spades and each other's straight draws more often than not and YOU HAVE TWO TENS!!!! YAY!!!! No one can make a straight without a ten.

PF Question, Stone- What were you re-raising with PF here? I love taking flops multiway with JTxx with a little bit o' single suited and at least 1 x completementing the JT, like a Q, 9, or suited Ace. JTT9? QQJJ? QQJT? QJTT?

I normally don't re-raise preflop at all unless I have AA and can get a huge chunk of my stack in. Here I did it specifically to target that player, isolating a weak player who I have a decent read on with a good and disguised hand. Obviously the 4-bet behind me forced me to adjust the game plan.

I would probably have re-raised with AA, KKs, any connected two-pair down to 9988 and perhaps some nice wraps. Basically I really really want to play this guy in a raised pot with position.

Peppe showed [Qh] [Tc] [9h] [5h] so he was drawing at the straight. Don't know why he suddenly decided this hand was worth a preflop raise, he hadn't raised at all before preflop.

Carsus showed [As] [Kd] [8c] [7h] for top pair top kicker and... well that's it really. The naked Ace of spades but no flush draw or anything. I obviously underestimated his moronitude.

Flop equity:
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
As 8c Kd 7h 37 5.56 629 94.44 0 0.00 0.056
Tc Qh 9h 5h 234 35.14 414 62.16 18 2.70 0.365
Jc Td Jh Th 377 56.61 271 40.69 18 2.70 0.580

Turn:
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
As 8c Kd 7h 0 0.00 36 100.00 0 0.00 0.000 <--- drawing dead, biatch!
Tc Qh 9h 5h 10 27.78 26 72.22 0 0.00 0.278
Jc Td Jh Th 26 72.22 10 27.78 0 0.00 0.722

River bricked so here dragged a 650bb pot :)
